    Dude Hedir = Hassle

Why don't you just make the pending submissions thing public for certain ranks of users? I always find it a hassle to submit to Hedir as registering, posting in the forum etc. is really... time taking and not worth the effort.

I think that it is the better system in order to certify the quality of sites.
Moreover, the members can advise to you improvements of your site.
if you have haste you can always choose the sponsor listing

Don't you think you should call it a Website Reviewing community rather than a Directory in that case?

In my opinion the review process adds to the value of the directory since it maintains the quality of sites listed in the directory.

Sure, its a reviewing community but in the end you get listed in a good directory.

I think that it is a good directory, without SPAM SITES and only people that have a real interest in this commuity can make part of HEDIR.

I understand what do you think Correctus, but Website Reviewing community or Directory for me aren't so different.

Andgu and Francesco, you do have valid points guys.

I guess Hedir is a Quality Resources directory, and maybe I'll use it for searching for websites too.

Good luck with the directory francesco, although somehow I always had the feeling that there weren't enough people to review all the sites, am I wrong?

I have a site listed in hedir and I went through the review process. It is a long process, but I did receive valuable critique and thoughts regarding my site that I found very helpful. It is definately not like other directories, but I found the review process useful.

Tried to submit www.hkhangfong.com, but doesn't know whether successful or not. Could you check it for me?

If you can let people submitting without register, I think you can attract more people. Also it is confusing after clicking submit. What's those messages?

Hi hhheng, I don't think that Hedir will change their policy. As they are receiving everyday more than 50 spam posts in just one open forum i.e. Offtopic and if they allow users without registration then you can imagine the situation.

btw, wherever you feel difficulty, just ask in the forum but registered yourself 1st. I believe you will get the community 24 X 365 days online.

Any other questions you have like this should be asked at Hedir so you will get a faster response. Good luck with your reviews. :)

General Info for all who read this:
The process you go through to get added is a huge benefit not only because you are one step closer to being added to a great directory but also because the help that is given along the way to being added. A submitter has the chance to gain knowledge about their own site that they themself may not have realized was a potential problem and then able to fix it. It becomes a win-win situatin for both Hedir having your wonderful site in the directory but also the submitter knowing that their site is truly as great as they thought it was.

Good luck in all you do,
    Google Junky

It`s a very nice idea, I really like this concept , but maybe it`s a bit hard to complete that long description, at least 500 caracters....

Else it`s looking very nice and promising.

    Regards,
    Dks

Thanks darkstar, I know the problem of 500 caracters, but it is useful in order to eliminate spam and people not seriously interested.

Hedir concept(s) is(are) unique. It offers forums for each category. It is also planning for one wiki per category, http://www.hedir.com/cafe/about17274.html .

The most important factor is the development rate, it is developing new things every single friday, recent Web 2.0 bookmark is available on few homepages, a new phpbb mod is about to get released. It is certainly more than a directory.

Only Advice is to keep a watch as it can turn out to be a big player soon.

    I liked this challenge,
Hedir will soon be an expensive deal, keep a watch.

Yes - like other directories, Hedir can then attract a million junk sites and spammers :)

I've been a reviewer/participant at Hedir for 2 months now, and am an editor for 2 years at other well-known directories. I prefer Hedir - the amount of spammy junky submittals is FAR less. Someone has to delete the junk submittals, remember. Isn't an editor's time spent better in reviewing good submittals, than in wading through junk ones?

While it would be great to make it extremely simple for sincere and honest people to get their sites submitted, that opens the door for the unscrupulous manipulators too.

Besides, submitters should be encouraged to stick around and do some reviews of other people's sites instead of drop off a submittal and run. I mean, you ARE getting a free listing in a very good (and growing) directory. It should be worth a little effort, no?

And the review process is very enlightening. Sure, many people just write one-line "Gee I like your site!" reviews. But many people take the time to visit your site and provide a thoughtful, detailed review. My sites have improved greatly from the feedback I've received both on technical aspects and on viewer experience aspects. It's worth the wait.

It isn't easy, but with a little thought you can do this. It helps to give some thought first to what services or options are available from the company, then see what the site has on it. Then write about it.

Try to give some reasons the services are good or beneficial, but without sounding too much like an advertisement. Think about what you would tell your neighbor if she asks you what your company does.
Try to avoid repeating yourself. It's a little bit of work, but remember what you write helps the user to decide to click on your link instead of your competitors!

Of course, this is easier for people like me who already talk too much

Hmm, having a well-written listing for a high quality site in a better-than-average directory isn't worth your effort?

    • Not worth your effort to have your site reviewed to be sure it is technically and aesthetically sound?
    • Not worth your effort to submit your site to a directory that maintains high standards for quality sites?
For a free listing in a high quality directory, it's too much to log in and review a few sites? Gosh, I'd hate to see you break a sweat or something

Not every directory is worth the effort to submit to. New directories have sprung up like flies on horse poop in the last couple of years - most of them are not worth the effort because they are poorly managed and will accept any listing of any quality. You might as well list in a link farm.

It has been worth my effort to spend a little time at Hedir because some good people found a couple of serious problems in my sites that I missed. I got some new tools I didn't know about, which are helping me to build better sites now. I've only been at Hedir for 2 months and my forum posts are in Google already; I've been posting in other directory forums for 2 years and only see 1 or 2 posts in Google from time to time. So that gives me better visibility with my sig links.

    Not worth my effort? :D :D :D
