Whats so wrong with the attribution that we cannot use ? Hell we are still having phpld link in the footers, so why not one more if we are going to use someones services ?

I don't think anything is wrong with it, just that it would take too much time to deal with it. That's all.

I had my thumbs switched over to thumbshots when girafa quit working. It was quick and works.

With the footer links for phpld - they are only in the footer if you don't pay for the unlinked version. In my opinion it is more than a good idea to pay for the unlinked version and not have to clutter up your site with sponsored links in footers and elsewhere. :)

Ive only done it on one of mine so far, as if its sorted in a few days then ive only one to change back, i know is just a quick edit, but i dont want to prematurely start messing with things.

Just another reason why directorydump was always and will always be ahead of the pack. as simple as a click of a checkbox in the admin to use alternate sources; from 3rd party to in-house.

ahhh, i love my directory :D

Switch thumbnails at the flick of a switch in the admin? Sounds like another mod methinks - let me know when it's available ;)

To be frank to edit and switch to thumbshots is easier than inserting 1 link in the footer, i do not see how its harder and will take too much of a time ?

For most of us, there is more than one file to edit.

I am willing to bet on that , its going to be more than just 1 file to put that link beside where it says " Powered by: phpLD " .

But anyways not my problem if someone wants to use their service they can surely find time to insert the link too, so as to not break any TOS. My job is finished .

    Cheers

Great thread fellas - I never knew there were so many options, so I decided to put a little comparison together and weigh the pros and cons. I still am not decided which option to switch to but am leaning toward Artviper simply because their images seem to be updated more frequently than others.

If anybody has info to improve on this list, please enlighten us. I'd rather not do this work twice as I'm sure others wouldn't either if possible :)

    Alexa
    Pros
    -Established company, owned by Amazon
    -Images load quickly

    Cons
-Paid service, minimal cost ($0.20 per 1,000 thumbnails)
-Images appear to be updated infrequently

    Girafa
    Pros
    -Images load quickly

    Cons
-Only 2,000 free images per day ($20/month up to 4,000)
-Images appear to be updated infrequently

    Thumbshots.org
    Pros
    -Free, no registration required
    -Loads fast!

    Cons
-Images appear to be updated infrequently

    Artviper.net
    Pros
    -Free, no registration required
-Images appear to be updated most frequently out of all the options!

    Cons
-Images load slower than other services
-Unsure how stable this company is long term

    Adbrite
    Pros
    -Free, no registration required
    -Images load fast

    Cons
-Images appear to be updated infrequently
-Appears to rely on Alexa, leading one to wonder how long it will be a free service

domainpubber, very helpful post, il take a look at any that i haven't checked yet, apart from one of my directories, ive still been holding back until finding a reasonable solution.

    Will check Artviper.net for sure.

I never even knew there was a thumbnail service available for us. I have spent endless amounts of time creating website thumbnails :(

    Thanks for the revelation!
