As many noticed the hack to get website thumbnails through msnsearch.srv.girafa.com is not working anymore, that includes anyone using PHP Link Directory which was using the same hack and some other applications having it already built in. But in reality there is no problem, anyone can get the Girafa service free of charge without using the MSN hack. You can go here: http://www.girafa.com/free/, and get your own code.
Thanks for the info. It's good to have a back-up. I'm using http://open.thumbshots.org/image.pxf?url={$link.URL} right now since "http://msnsearch.srv.girafa.com/srv/i?s=MSNSEARCH&r={$link.URL} " went down.
or go to http://thumbshots.org/ for phpld users <img src="http://open.thumbshots.org/image.pxf?url={$URL|escape|trim}" alt="{$TITLE|escape|trim}" width="120" height="80" border="0" />
Note that the girafa site only allows 2000 thumbnail requests per day. Something to consider if you run a popular site.
Do note that if you use Thumbshots, you have to give them an attiribution link on all pages that use those thumbnails - http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=5509371&postcount=17
3 Easy steps to load open.thumbshots 1. Open the link.tpl file in the templates folder 2. Find http://msnsearch.srv.girafa.com/srv/...NSEARCH&r= 3. Replace with http://.org/image.pxf?url=
cool. Those are useful tips. In the end I removed the site previews when girafa had troubles and haven't reinstalled it. I don't think it does anything for a directory. I don't think people come to look around for resources but only to deposit links. Or do other people have different views?
I think this one is better https://shots-s.snap.com/preview/?url={$link.URL} Code (markup): and it works like girafa
