Recently I was going through a SEO certification and during the course I discovered that Google has stopped giving importance to blogs and have stopped ranking blogs high. I wanted everyones opinion on this. Regards
hrrm...i didn't mean to question your integrity?? not sure why your certification should be a secret. i was just curious as to why this SEO firm considered blogs obsolete. I think others may disagree with this assessment, but I have read opinions that blogs are not as highly valued as they were in the past (although still important)
I am curious how Google even defines what's a blog since so many sites use blog-based templates and so many companies have blogs closely integrated with the rest of their sites. The difference between a "blog" and a "website" is pretty hazy these days. Maybe they're just giving less importance to Blogspot and Wordpress domains?
You stated "Google has stopped giving importance to blogs" and so on. How exactly did you discover this? Did you "Google" it in the course? Did you read it from a book? Did an instructor tell you? These are very important questions. Without your answers to these questions then your question can not be answered effectively. My opinion is Google will not/should not/could not be biased against blogs. There is no reason to. It's just a CMS hosted on a domain, unless as someone else just mentioned, they are free hosting blogs such as blogger, wordpress etc.. Even then I don't see why they would devalue them either. I have seen plenty of high ranking blogs around. Why? Content, feeds, backlinks etc...just the same as regular web sites. Hope this helps. Col
No it's not true. Blogs can still have better ranking in search engine as long as you optimized it, with your targeted keywords.
most blogs suffer from supplemental index problem as blog sofywares create 2 pages ..one post of the homepage & a dedicated page for the post.
It makes sence really, it has nothing to do with the sites being a blog or not a blog, it's the linking strategy ... tagging.. and so forth that are built into most blogs. As for the supplemental index .. Matt Cutts blog some fixes for that.. whether it be blog or site, the print page, rss feed, etc .. only one get's the dupe penanlty, but the blog will show you how to tell google which page of yours is more important.. i don't care to look up the post atm .. but .. a search oughta get it for ya
Simple test it out yourself, buy one blogpost from say 200 different blogs and wait for a month. And see whether ranking in google has increased for your website for the keywords you targeted. Alternatively you can pm me to know the result.
How is this relevant again? 200 blog posts.. vs ? Your one website, or are we just checking to see if many purchased links on blogs will boost the keyword relevance of your one site.. or .. are we checking to see how many links you can buy at once without getting into trouble.. :/
I am talking about buying a blog post which contains few contextual links to your website. So if google really values such contextual blog posts you should rank higher in 1-2 months, else if google devalues(penalizes) it, your rank in google search will go down drastically for the keywords.
rishi, thats not true. Your homepage still has a link to the original post. There are millions of sites having post on homepage, that means they are duplcated? Blogs are still considered better source of information for the simple reason that they are updated often unlike other static websites or MFA (one page content whores)
it's intresting idea but i dont believe you . what is your information source? i also suggest you to read http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=296621 . it's a thread about keeping your serp position
Google can't give less weight to blogs. Some blogs can still become authoritive sites and can rank for practically anything there title says. My blog has not been optimised, has a few links in and is getting quite a nice long tail in the SERP's
Content is still the king for Google and fresh contents through blog... why google won't consider them for ranking.... I think you should check again... As this seems to be a wrong news... Google still love Blogs.
