Google AdWords Keyword Tool Not Accurate at all?

I am indexed #1 on a term that gets 20,000+ monthly searches. Using google analytics my site only generates about 50 visits / day from it? So from the 650 people searching this term on google every day only 50 people click the #1 overall indexed page? Am i not understanding something here trying to read these stats?

Try other browsers and search for the same keywords, make sure you're #1 there as well. Try at least three different proxies and check your standing for different keywords as well. Results may vary by region or user's location.

How do you know you only get 50 clicks per day? What counter are you using?

thats good advice i typically do that. I also have friends from all over the US. that i confirm my important indexed keywords. Now perhaps it could be way different outside of the US????

But what i do in analytics is click on traffic sources and then click on my most popular keywords and it shows me a graph showing how many vistis acquired each day.

Okey, for trial purposes and concrete evidence try using Statcounter.com for a few days. It's easy to implement and to use, it provides you with detailed statistics as to where your users are coming from, what keywords they used, what region they're from and so on. See what kind of results you get there, post them up here and we'll go from there.

Problem is, you don't really know how many searches have been performed on your keyword. You can't even be sure you show up #1 all the time for all those searches. However, assuming you do and assuming an average of 650 per day and you get 50 clicks, depending on your keyword, that 7.7% click rate may not be at all bad. You'd like to try for more of course so make your title and description tags more appealing.

Yes trying different, less customized browsers is a good idea. See how that works.

I am also facing a similar situation. My web site is on two top keywords attracting 1450000 and 165000 searches according to Google Keywords tool. Although i feel the searches may be inflated but still I get 7 visitors for one keywords and 4 visitors for the second one. My web site is on top 5 for both keywords. Thats a mystery for me. Maybe more people click on paid search ads decreasing the clicks on search results ? Has anyone got idea about that ?

delmoon, just like the OP, you are assuming that just because you place high that people will click your listing. They will click only if it looks like you are offering something they are looking for.

Here's a real life example. Say you have a site reviewing Schwinn exercise bikes and you show up first for the term "schwinn exercise bike". If I type that term in, chances are I'm already sold and want that particular brand and not interested in reviews. But your listing's title and description mention reviews, nothing about buying or other info. I'm therefore less likely to click your listing even though it may be the first. Being lower will also reduce the click rate as people tend to click more on the top ones, especially if it appears to be exactly what they were looking for.

Same for paid ads. If it's not attractive to them, they won't click. I don't think there has been studies yet but I believe ads get clicked on as often, if not more often, than organic listings. I base this on just one client who shows up in the top positions organically for keywords he's also bidding on. In his case, about 40% of visitors come from the organic listings and 60% from the ads.

I don't think any paid clicks you got is real data. Try to get back and check it later tomorrow or other day.
