On most points, the internal search on facebook is worse then google as well... they need more options to better connect people....entire profile search capabilty, not just name + school/location/job ... I wanna find myself a nice Virgo....

JeremyMorgan said it best though (view post [IMG] ) I check facebook two or three times a day sometimes 15-20 times if I feel like being a moron. I check Google only when I need to search (or check my adsence account/email).

Whoever was talking about fanpages and groups has it wrong though... or at least only has it partially right. Create a funny/fun group/fan page and the only traffic you'll get is happenstance... most people join groups like that just to have it show up on their wall when they join. Special Interest groups can pull in some initial traffic...but anything that looks like spam, and people will loose interest fast.

Fake People? Sure, you can get 1,000,000 followers, but trust me, Facebook people only add people they know, that or they are playing apps or are trying for traffic (like you are considering) but it wont work as well as you think! Why? Because if you have 500 people following you and even a quarter of them post, then that means each one will need to click the OLDER POSTS. I have to click that with only 100 REAL friends, and most of the time I simply don't! (that's right, I DON'T for my REAL friends, what makes ya think I'd do it for people I don't know?).

Yes, yes, groups, fan pages, and fake people can all pull in traffic, but that should be measured by the traffic not your friend count...

Facebook definitely is a step forward for almost every Social Networking website. They've set a standard that Myspace could never do. I've found old classmates, family, and just people I wish I could find on Myspace. But, I do believe that Google shouldn't have to worry because they're both in different niches.

Hmm, IMO Facebook and Google like Water and Oil, they are two different thing. Still search engine is the best! Long live for Mr. G!

Facebook brought along an innovative and very easy way for people to 'remain in touch'. No wonder.. it is the current craze. :)

It will remain so... till a better technology/method is developed to make this task... even more easier!

    Regards,

When I start my pc, the very first thing I do is open google just like that and leave it. then it comes to facebook.....and share my posts on it. Google has it's own position in some other ways and facebook has its own......should we compare these two sites?

I dont really agree with you. It seems that everyone is on Facebook these days. Even my mom is on Facebook and for a technophobe like her it really says something.

Like I wrote in another post, depends on whether you sell aftershave or not.

And to one other person "Bull" that everybody is on a SNS.

For my niche, it would be a waste of time.

Tell you what .... search on Google "Portland Cerfified Arborists" ...

What dominates the search for that professional service?

One thing is certain at my end, I'm very good at searching online, and there is no way I'm going to use a SNS to find a good Chevrolet dealer, a vinyl window installer, house insurance, nor a good tailor for my suit.

Facebook and the like are just playgrounds, not serious shopping places.

I agree. Sooner or later something new and more amazing Social Networking site will come out. Remember the saying, "There's nothing permanent in this world". :p
