Does traffic really increase your adsense earnings?

    Hi guys,

I'm planning to start a social networking site.. as you know the site might not be popular or if it does get popular, it hit million of users.

The concern now is that if it really grows to million and people all puts up alot of pictures.. I got to really pay for a dedicated server for the extra diskspace and bandwidth which will cause me alot of money every month.

So say, if i put adsense on such a site, and NOBODY click at all, will the traffic along... do you think i might earn enough just to pay off the traffic?

A good example like friendster.. it's free.. but i just dunno how they can actually manage the site without any fee from users...

Yup, dat's my main concern.. cos i dun wanna start a site.. and in the end, it managed to get alot of people signing up.. and because of low funds.. i got to shut it down.. dat's horrible =(

    Pls kindly advice me.

    Thanks

I have a moderately high traffic site (over 300,000 visitors a month). I thought I could make it with just my traffic but so far it's not looking so great.

It usually depends on well the ads are blended in, INMO, or are much they stick it to increase your earnings.

Mendna, good question and it depends on so many variables. Firstly, why are your users coming to your site and are they finding what they're after at your site. Secondly, whether Google can publish Adsense ads that are consistent with what your users are looking for.

If you are getting huge pageviews there may be better ways to advertise on your site that could be more relevant such as Adbrite or Chitika. Google may or may not be the answer you're looking for.

Okay, if say, just relying on adsense alone doesnt help much to pay for your hosting fee, than hmm.. the best way is to charge people for the service.. which really bothers me... tax issues? hahaa

I know it's out of this forum category but a quick qns, if the user pay by paypal or credit card for such service, anyone know whether do we need to pay tax? and also.. must we register a company name to host the services?

You need to really read this forum more if you can't monetize that much traffic.

It really depends on what kind of site network you're planning to start. If you start a network of blogs, which has a ton of content, you should make easy and good money with Adsense if you develop the traffic. But if it's, say, a humor or image-intensive site, then Adsense earnings won't be quite as high. It all depends...

If Adsense doesn't work, you could always try CPM ads. At $2-$4 per thousand visitors, that would go a long way towards paying off your hosting bills.

NewToAllThis: Could you please look at this thread: here

We are trying to help you, but you won't let us!

Why bother, Caydel? Anyone who makes it this difficult doesn't deserve free help IMO. I especially like how she just ignores people's replies (who are just trying to help her!) and continues to whine on other people's threads about not making any money instead. Kinda annoying, if you ask me.

While that is true, and I am myself about to give up, I kind of feel a bit sorry for newer publishers, and do like to try to help. I guess my breaking point is just a touch past yours...

However, that is the last I am posting about this one...

Caydel is right. You should build your system progressively focusing on low-cost hardware & hosting. Budget everything for a $2 CPM and you should have no problem with BW cost.

99% of the case the BW cost per page is signifcantly lower than the 0.002 per page you make with CPM ads. That means you can make a small profit for every page view (assuming normal pages e.g. no streaming...).

Adsense can help a lot but it really depends on the type of content and users you have.

The only question is more can advertising pay for everything else? in that case the answer is probably no unless you get a lot of traffic (e.g. marketing, programming and customer acquisition cost per page is usually >>> than CPM). That's also why Search engines help a lot because they bring traffic with a very low cstm acquisition cost.

    My 0.02.

Yes, it will increase but you should expose the google code. And the topic of the site should be not very cheap. I mean that you should always try to get more than 0,05$ per click.

Nothing is wrong with any of my sites ATM... I believe you misunderstood a post of mine. NewToAllThis, who posted above, has been somewhat complaining about a lack of income, but refusing our attempts to help him. I made another attempt above, Jack replied stating the futility of the action, and I merely replied that I was about to give up...

Give up on helping NewToAllThis, not on my sites, or this board or anything else like that.

    Hope this clears it up!

I saw that thread and I thought I responded to you. I have been reading the threads and I am getting a lot of useful help. I PM'd my site to 2 posters who asked and I have not gotten a response from either poster.

Like other posters, I, too am afraid of click bombing. I don't want to be banned (for invalid clicks) so that is why I am not posting my site. I described my site as a urban entertainment site. It is image intensive and the content is urban entertainment based (gossip, etc). Thank you for your attempts to help... and to Jack as well.

    I'll just keep reading.
