Disappointed Newbie Here

I'm new to Adsense. I have a urban site that gets mentioned on urban radio due a lot. My site averages about 15,000 to 28,000 visitors a day. Some days when my site is mentioned on the radio there is a spike in traffic. So I started using Adsense ads on my pages. I was really excited at the prospect of making money from page impressions. I wasn't expecting much from CTR. I didn't think my market (urban) would really click on many ads. I've been pretty disappointed so far.

My first day I made around $40 which I thought was a pretty low number considering I had 65,000+ page impressions. I thought I would make a killing off page impressions alone. Hurt and confused, I came here to this forum from google and I read as many threads as I could for the past 3 days. I took the advice of the experts here. I made changes in my ad positioning, I took out the border and blended the ads. Today I moved the tower ad to the left side of the page so it looks like my site's navigation.

Still, for the past 2 days my revenue has dropped to around $25 a day even though my traffic has spiked. I'm disappointed but I will stick with the program. I hope to average about $30 a day but I doubt it. Great forums you have here.

You will have to keep testing the ads and see which position etc pays higher.

One small change can make a big difference, either in a positive or negative way.

$30 a day is a good start considering many people struggle to make $1 a day.

Good luck for the future and fingers crossed you find the right placements. ;)

    *edit*

I just moved the tower today to the left side. I haven't even looked at my earnings today because I know it will be low due to it being the weekend. But on Monday I will see the results of moving the tower. Maybe I will add a small unit at the footer as well.

I guess I'm confused with the stats. My first day I had like 45,000 page impressions and 127 clicks and made $40. Then the next day I had 65,000 page impressions and 190 clicks and made less money!!

My best day so far is $48 and I don't understand it because when my stats are higher I make less money.

*sigh* I'm afraid to do that. What if someone from Adsense is reading this thread? I don't want to be banned so early in the game.

*Edit* That's visitors. I thought I culd make money off of page impressions. I figured if I made $1 for every thousand views I would make a killing. But it has been very disappointing so far. Imagine thinking you were going to make thousands only to make $40.

hey you will not be banned for trying to maximise clicks legally. Stop being paranoid ;)

How many of your visitors are unique, and how many are regulars? Regs will likely not click on the same ads, while a big turnover will.

How relevant are your ads to your content? if they are not then consider using content matching.

PM me the URL if you like.

Well, I wasn't counting on my visitors clicking the ads because even I don't click google ads on other sites. But now that I am a publisher I want to make money. I have placed the tower on the left side. I have to wait to see how it performs. I have both Firefox and IE6 but I can't view my ads in IE because I can't get javascript to work. It works fine in Firefox but as you know Firefox and IE are 2 different animals.

Yes, I have enabled javascript and active scripting in IE and I have disabled my firewall. I think it's just broken. I downloaded Runtime Environment. Of course that did nothing. Not sure what to do now because I want to see how my page looks in IE. The business center where I live has 2 computers. But management is putting in new computers so I can't go online in there. The door is locked.

Write a script (or pay to have one written) and display afiliate ads 505 and adsense 50%. You wil soon see which is giving you the best returns.

Oh and you didn't answer any of my questions. It makes it a little difficult to help if you don't answer the questions directoed at you :(

Have you checked out the page on Google that talks about optimization? It might help a little...

    Check it out here

Hmmm with 65,000 page views a day I would expect a LOT more than $25 too... Even if the ads are low paying, say 3c thats a CTR of like 1.2%!!!

All I can say (unless you show us the url) is research on ad layout optimization a lot, implement (with channels), test, try again over and over.

It's definately worth it when you have a lot of traffic like that! :D You could earn quite a lot through that site if you manage to monetize it properly! :)

    P.S. I'm jealous - lol

Oh, sorry. I looked at my stats and it says my unique visitors are a little bit less than my overall visitors. So yesterday I had 25,000+ visitors but the unique vistors were about 21,000.

My site is a urban entertainment site so my ads are relevant to that market. I get a lot of ringtone ads and some hip hop ads. Mostly download mp3 type stuff. Last week I wrote about the Black Eyed Peas so I had good ads related to them.

With 25,000 visitors why not give firms that offer cpm ads such as Casale a go?

Thank you for that link. I will look into them. It's funny, when I put my code on all the pages on my site my revenues fell. This is so weird because my other pages are the high traffic pages.

Adsense is so confusing. There is nothing clear cut. I found that when I blended my ads with my sites colors my CTR dropped. I had over 160+ clicks when my ads were pink and white. Today I only had 89 clicks. I guess because my visitors are mostly females those colors caught their eye.

Okay, so you keep whining about how badly your site is doing, but you refuse to give out your URL so we can go take a look and give you suggestions. Instead, we're just supposed to "picture" it and go from there.

Whatever. Keep your site to yourself.

I'm off to help someone who actually cares about actually getting help and will supply all the necessary info to get that help he keeps asking for.

    Buh-bye.

Hard but it's the truth. I wouldn't even bother to answer this thread to help you with something imaginative (for us!)

I'm a &#%*@$#% Lady! J/k :p But I am a female. The reason I won't give out my URL is because I'm afraid of being banned. I don't see everyone else giving out their URLs. I might PM it to you if you can be trusted not to post it or PM it to anyone else.

I have noticed that a record label has begun to advertise on my site through Adsense because it's the same banner ad all day long on all my pages. It never changes.

BS. I really suggest to first read the Google TOS and soon you are going to realize that it's NOT forbidden to tell other people about your domain!! ^^

Ok to make it short: If you own a domain and whether you make or you don't make money with it... it is allowed to share your domain! People come with whatever reason, whether they just want to see the contents or evaluate ad placements. Man (/Lady), you got to know that MOST people are giving out the URL in order to receive help; thats why your comment is useless...

I'm not trying to get rich from Adsense. Just trying to get an understanding of why a site with my stats is making x amount of dollars.

I use adsense on my websites. www.ibold.net is one of them. It doesn't perform very well at all, and makes me almost nothing off of about 3-6k uniques per day. I'm very disappointed with adsense on the site, but cannot find an alternative. Please someone suggest how I can make the ads better on my site?

...now if I get banned you know not to do this. I, however, will not get banned, because talking about your site, and even saying it performs poorly on adsense, is not against any of Googles rules..
Google wants you to make money. If you make money, they make money. It's good for everyone.
