Do affilliate Links affect Adsense earnings?

    Hi out there!

I run a small number of sites that bring in a relatively constant Pay per Click for Adsense Ads, about 20cents , not much change during the last 1.5 years.

Starting this month, i had even an Increase to about 22 Cents, so my earnings went up.

However, the last 5 Days i started to show Affiliate Links as well (I had only Adsense before), and yesterday and today the Pay Per Click dropped to 15 Cent, it never was so low.

So will showing other ads (of course within TOS) result in lower PPC earnings from Adsense ? (Number of clicks and CTR remained the same)

With more links you give your users more options to click on... so your AdSense CTR will probably be lower.

no, ctr and number of clicks was about the same. Maybe i suffer from the same problems people are having in this thread

    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=125630

I know that the figures go up and down for most people here, but for me they have been very constant the last 1.5 years, so i am a bit worried because the drop happened just after i added the affiliate links.

Do you think that these links (no matter if they are affiliate links) can be cause for changing adsense ads maybe for other niche or not the same as all time before. Have you noticed this maybe?

Try and montise the sites with bot adsense and affiliate links, this would diversify income streams.

CTR with adsense and any similar PPC go up and down. But it's important not just to rely on Adsense.

Great sounding advice. But what do you guys think, EITHER AdSense or affiliate links on a given page, or mix them with some "just right" balance n a single page?

I suppose a truly optimized site would experiment with both for a while on each page, then stick with what works on a given page.

But I wonder what the general consensus is?

Well, some of the more popular sites use both on the same page. One ad from adsense and one affiliate is best. Too many more on a single page is too much for the user to bear.

Well if you have many affiliate links with different text they may change the relevant google ads being shown. If the ads shown now are lower CPM then it would affect it for sure. But this would only happen if you had enough affiliate links to alter the keyword density of your entire page and push it into another category.

I dont have that much affiliate Links, ads look pretty nomal. Anyway, it seems to have been just a temporary drop, the last two days were quite normal, and today CPM is even much higher than normal :)
