This topic really gets me going....

Our site got listed in DMOZ 7 (SEVEN!!!) years ago and has a very irrelevant description on dmoz for what the site has grown into over 7 years. I wish Google would take that bit of info on board and stop using the dmoz descriptions - the web surfer gets the totally incorrect impression of what the site is about when it comes up in Google search. And to get anyone at DMOZ to change it is impossible .. I've been trying for 2 years!

I wish DMOZ would take a lot of info on the board and curl up and slowly die. =) Red rep? Stupid DMOZ editors.. like I care. What are you going to do... not list me for the next decade? LOL.. that's S.O.P.!!!!

Why insult dmoz editors? The stereotyping is incredible.

MSN uses it now too. A good reason not to be in DMOZ I suppose - more control over how your site is displayed in google/MSN ?

    msn using dmoz descriptions

Noone believed it at first, I think because it's such an awful thought that we have zero control over our site's description (take away bribing an editor). I for one don't see any real benefit in dmoz now, most of the scrapers are using nofollow tags! Being listed is not only pointless but can prove harmful now.
My recommendation: listen to Lorien, try your hardest to stay out of dmoz. Rank well in msn and let the msn scrapers get you instead :)

I am sure this has come up before but, Why the hell doesnt google do their own paid for directory and hoof these dmoz clowns out! I think we would all be much happier? I would rather pay to be checked out and listed in google like they do in yahoo directory than sit and wait for dmoz to do a half ass job because they dont have enough editors.

I have a few really good sites that should be listed and are not and my competitors are on there with bad information, just makes no sense!

Im not bitter, I have been through the dmoz issues before, but do we all not feel the same way?

what about a protest perhaps to google that we all want to throw money at them? non-profits / charity sites free of course.

    What are your thoughts?

    Short Answer : They suck.

Long answer : They reeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllyyyyyyyy suck.

And to the red repper : "didn't you want it" Apparently.. every time I state the fact that DMOZ is corrupt, lazy, full of dead links, no organization, no planning, no brain... I get red rep. (funny how DMOZ editors come here to argue about posts I left in their now defunct, and always useless forum, and now I just get anonymous red rep instead, what's 1+1? Hint : Don't ask a dmoz editor.)

    So yes... I did. Thanks! :p :p :p :p

Ok this is the weirdiest shit I've ever run across. I'm seeing two different titles for my leather site depending which DC its at. I have no idea why on earth I see two different titles on G. There is NO WAY .. I would have changed the page title of the listing to what G.CA is showing. I have checked my CMS to make sure I didn't do anything weird. Anyways here is what I'm seeing:

    On google.COM

Leather Jackets , Leather Products & Leather Hides
Portal to the global leather goods and apparel, and footwear industries.
Categorized business directory. Business news and list of trade fairs.
    www.leatherpages.com/ - 82k - Cached - Similar pages

    On google.CA

    Leather Pages
Portal to the global leather goods and apparel, and footwear industries.
Categorized business directory. Business news and list of trade fairs.
    www.leatherpages.com/ - 82k - Cached - Similar pages

SOOO WTF? Where is this stuff coming from? I thought DMOZ and I looked up my DMOZ listing and its shows the following:

Leather Pages - Portal to the global leather goods and apparel, and footwear industries. Categorized business directory. Business news and list of trade fairs. Marketplace and forums. Web site hosting services. Job offers and posting facilities.
-- http://www.leatherpages.com/ Business: Textiles and Nonwovens: Leathers: Directories (1)

Holy shit ... most of the sites on G.CA that I have my fingers in are showing the Title in the listings the same as what is in DMOZ ... is this the next BigDaddy update ppl couldn't place their fingers on?

An interesting NOTE the google directory is showing the actual onpage Title in the listings!!!

    Feedback? Anyone seeing similar results?

I just did some quick checks on google.com and google.ca but I'm not seeing any odd titles or descriptions here, sayles.

By the way, I tried both the Google Toolbar search box and google.com/google.ca directly. No difference for me.

I saw my site using dmoz title on some data centers recently, but I don't mind... If I remember correctly it were on the data centers mentioned in one of the threads below.
