Digg For Links, Not Just Traffic

While I've seen Digg discussed as a way to generate traffic, if you submit stories on popular subjects, it's also a great way to get yourself an immediate link.

The odds of getting onto a high PR page are probably low, but the site itself is pretty high PR. However, if you were to get some links to your own profile on Digg you could probably give it some PR. It will show all the items you have Dugg recently, so you could get a bit of PR pointing to your own blog entries with a bit of effort.

For example, it's not exciting, but here's my profile... Jaundice. If you are willing to share your interests (and possibly identify some of your own sites) what is your profile?

One problem with traffic from Digg and friends is that it's hardly convertible. As far as I know this is typical for sites like these.

As for the links... Well, I dunno... might give it a try.

Never thought of this. Could be good to get a couple links this way.

I know what you're saying, but stuff I've posted there in the past hasn't been terribly successful in terms of traffic generated, even though the content has been relevant and well-written.

On a wider scale, though leveraging social bookmarking sites in this way does seem to work, although I'd never considered promoting my profile page to attain higher PR - not a bad idea, though while you're at it, why not promote your Squidoo lenses, your del.icio.us account, etc?

Digg is limited to certain sectors, so some people's content might not be appropriate to link to.

Digg is opening up more sectors... they added sports a few days ago. Anyway, I'm now regularly digging my blog articles and bookmarking them on del.icio.us as well.

Do you think it might help speed getting listed in the SERPs?

I suspect you will get banned from digg within a week.

Hmm, there are a lot of people submitting their own stories into digg, you can tell just by looking at the submitted items. Isn't the whole point of the site that people can submit things and if other people find it interesting also then it can rise up the ranks?

I'm not submitting crap, soliciting diggs or adding items into incorrect topics or anything that is counter to the way their system works. Why would they care if I promoted my own profile?

Am I missing something (it's been known to happen)?

EDIT: This from the Digg FAQ...

Are blog posts okay to submit as stories on digg?
Blog stories are fine as long as the story is not plagiarized.

Another great place to put your *useful* articles is StumbleUpon. I've been submitting my videos & funny links from MH and they've been getting good traffic as a result.

    Again, it doesn't convert though.

Cool, thanks for the links. From what I can see, Digg was getting uptight about people asking or enticing others to vote on their submissions. That I would certainly understand!

Maybe some folks didn't read my post very carefully...
