It is with a heavy heart, to say the least, that I announce the passing of Dan Schulz. Dan passed away at his home yesterday due to what is likely complications from pneumonia or something similar. He was quite sick the last time I spoke with him.

If you don't know who he is I suggest you check out a few of his posts here and on sitepoint such as http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1396377#post12104573

Dan was a flippen rock star and never selfish with his knowledge. He was a major asset to any site he was on and will be deeply missed by all.

I am frankly at a bit of a loss for words. He is one of the nicest guys I have ever had the pleasure of working with. He was certainly the most skilled.

Fear not, his legacy will live on. He was a staff member on sitepoint so you can follow some updates here http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/showthread.php?t=646396 (thanks to Buffalo for the heads up)

I am quite certain those folks will do something suitable to commemorate Dan's contributions to the SEO community. They are frankly too sizable to sum up in a post.

Off to rethink what is really important in this life,
    Nigel

    Is this for real?

If it is, then I'm really sad to hear this. All of his post are valuable and informative. I really like his style and generosity when it comes to his SEO knowledge. I really admire this person.

May he rest in peace :(

Really tragic news... Dan was a great teacher and a powerful example of how helpful and professional we should all be. As sad as it is, it also reminds me how glad and lucky I am to meet so many wonderful people online. Its easy to take for granted, but things like this really knock it back home.

May his soul rest in peace.

He was really a highly valuable member of DP (and other) communities. Personally, he helped me a lot with realizing what SEO actually is and how to approach it the right way.

You will never be forgotten, Dan!

I'm new so I'm just coming across a very few of his postings... I can already see what a great guy and asset he was to the community. His helpful spirit is clear. May he rest in peace and may his family find some comfort in this time of trouble.

OMG Nigel. I'm at Pubcon in Vegas getting ready for the keynote kick off and I can't believe what I just read. When he went AFK for a week after discussing the SEOAllStar gig, he PM'd me that he had gotten out of the hospital but I didn't really inquire for what. I don't like to delve too deeply into the lives of those I meet online unless they volunteer.

And you're correct. He was an awesome person, contributor, SEO, and I'm sure many more things that we who only know him online don't know about. He was one of a handful of peeps here that I respected and learned from.

I am just really at a loss of words, and can only say that he will truely be missed. What a loss to this and other forum communities where he contributed so much of his knowledge.

    God bless you Dan!
