If you want traffic, backlinks beats content big time. If you want to keep your traffic and have higher conversion rate and more proffits you should concentrate on content. Further, although many of the people who thankfully answered the question said that eventually good content will build backlinks, I would say, although this is right but it is a very slow strategy. Bottom line: Very good content will not be found if it does not have backlinks (unless of course you pay to get traffic). I don’t know how many visitors to good content will get you a link… what, every 1000… 5000… 10000. There is no accurate answer to that because this depends on many factors. Factors such as: how rare is your good content, how your good content is related to websites, how well is your visitors interacting on the web… and so on. Follow this strategy: Make sure to get to the habit of always building good content not just content. Then work on building backlinks all the time. Basically: Backlinks is what get you traffic. Good content makes the traffic profitable. Look at the following two threads: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1526308 http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1488252
Thank you for the insight. I really think your answer is perfect way to explain what is better content or backlink. They both go hand in hand so you can;t just simply make judgments on whether what's good or bad for a site.
With many backlinks to your site, it will increase your pagerank in the search engines, and people searching for info will find your content. I vote for BACKLINKS
Good content and quality backlinks are very important elements of SEO. I don't think we should argue about which one is more important than the other.
I would say content because if you can get many people to link to your site with content only...you will avoid the time it takes to build backlinks manually
You can't distinguish which one is better. You cannot succeed without both. If the question is to try and find out which to do the answer is you can't possibly consider doing only one of them Content without backlinks won't go anywhere while backlinks without content may go somewhere but won't stay there long. Which one is more important? Your left leg or your right leg? Which of your two children do you love most?
As the old adage goes, content is king Why? I have built two websites within the same industry, one focused heavily on backlinks the other content. The content focused website outranks the back link focused website on every top keyword in Google.
Yes, content is king. But it is also important how the key words are listed on the pages. It makes it more stronger to have the keywords in phrases instead of scattered around. It will help direct the SEO to your web page. It will not hurt to scatter around the keywords, but remember to put them in phrases also to improve the search. Another thing that makes content stronger is the more pages in a website.
hmm my vote goes to content because people go to your site for search for quality content not backlink , then backlink is only help to promote your site via SE for free...(you can still promote your website with other media such as magazine, Word of Mouth, TV, PPC,etc) if your website is good and people like it you don't need backlink building again to promote your website again..why? because people will remember your name site and return to your site WITHOUT SE but directly to your site.! but if you have a suck content on your site , virus, downtime, slow loading... people will close the browser and forget it then search for another good website for your keyword, right?
Content is always the king, but a king is nothing without his followers. So backlinks is as important as content.
