Click or just Display?

I'm new here and I don't run Adsense (yet), so please don't "shoot the messenger" if this question sounds dumb. I'm trying to unravel the spaghetti.

    Q. Do you earn revenue for simply having Adsense on your site, or do the ads actually have to be clicked on?

The reason I ask is because elsewhere I read the statement "by simply going to this site you earn the owner money".

I'm assuming that people must click the ads, but the above statement would suggest otherwise.

    The ads must be clicked!

However there are CPM ads (don't require clicks) which will earn you a few cents.

I'm wondering who clicks these ad's, because many people avoid advertisements nowadays, so it seems to me even if you can bring in the traffic it will be hard to get clicks.
However i'm still going to give it a try!

lol how about adding a flash game which requires a lot of clicking on the edge of the flash file, and the Ad just happens to be located on the right of this flash game

i would say devote a lot of time reading before asking questions like this.

Adsense is a pay per click form of advertisment.
there are others where you are paid per impressions.

you need to analysis your traffic source and quality to know what runs best for you.

i my opinion not many other advertisments give you return as adsense does.

    just my 2 cents.

If you could put here a list of ad providers that pay you on per impression basis, it would be very helpful money_train as I myself have been looking for them, and also many more people I am sure

I do the same on most sites would be a nice world if everyone did the same ;)

I too were looking for Pay per impression providers however on finding a couple i do not trust them with any details, however google is a reputable company that i can trust. So i'd rather stick with them.

They have to be clicked. You can only have three ad units per page.

This is a myth. If people ignore ads, why is that online ad spending is increasing at such astounding rate and advertisers are also diverting some of their budget from traditional media to the internet.

i have not used them but if you look around there will be many.
Adsense, according to me, gives me best returns on total impression.
these are some of the sites i just googled
    http://www.advertisingz.com/
    http://hydramedia.com/

have never tried them but some of these are here for quite sometime.

an old thread in this forum only.
    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=18259

just look around for more and before using any one of them post here and take opinion of other members on the board.

most of the advertisment is now changing from cost per impressions to cost per action.
