If Google continues with these bad results people will switch. I am not sure as to why people still love G besides the SEO/Traffic. I still use G but am not happy with results as an end user NOT SEO. MSN is my new engine I search with a lot and I love the results.

    i agree 100%!
google tends to return a bunch of CRAP in search results and im getting sick of it. perhaps they are getting a bit carried away with the way the spiders work? eitherway google isnt anywhere near the search engine it used to be. i find myself going to MSN and YAHOO! often because i cant find what i need with google.

also, as the other guy stated, its like a habbit to use google. but like him, i am slowly breaking myself from the habbit.

There's a lot of anecdotal evidence in this thread about how bad Google search results are getting. Regardless of what people are saying about the Jagger update, I'm not noticing any big differences as an end user. Maybe I'm not noticing because I have nothing to compare it to - it's been so long since I've used another search engine for real searches. I'll have to start testing out MSN and Yahoo.

MSN will have a larger share of the search engine market within the next year... Bill Gates is hungry, and that’s not good for google.

Google would be better off just becoming a PPC. :D

    F google.
the adsense is worthless. if google wasnt such a huge company, i would swear they were ripping me off. i mean my stats are a joke...

one day i have 75+ clicks with 22.00+ rev and a very good ctr
next day i have 3 clicks with .60 rev. and a HORRIBLE ctr, im talking less than .04
then, next day, im back to 50 clicks with $18 and good ctr

this goes on and on and on.
yesterday i took the ad's off my page. as of now my site is ad free, not sure who i am going to go with yet. thinking about adbrite.com

    =\

i also changed my search to msn, google is out of control with the rubbish they return in search results. just meaningless RUBBISH.

I use OpenOffice.org, but for most text editing needs simple kate (part of K Desktop Environment) is enough.

I can't remember the last time I opened MS Word or anything from MS Office..

    Thanks

Ubuntu (Linux) and OpenOffice most of the time, although I usually prefer OSX (but the hardware's far overpriced, so I'll wait for OSX86 to install it heavily).

Almost everybody in my city uses the same power company. Is this because it's a better power company than the competition? No, it's because the relative difficulty associated with the casual user getting that is almost entirely out of reach. The same is true for windows. Only a small percentage of computer users are competent enough to install an operating system, and as a result anything not pre-installed is pretty much doomed, anyway.

Of course, all this has nothing to do with how good or bad MS products actually are. I happen to think that Office is still the best office suite out there, it just happens to not be good enough to justify the cost relative to OO. Windows isn't the worst OS out there, but it's also not nearly as good as OSX. It's fine for casual users, though, and I suppose that's all that matters when you're targeting casual users.

allot of people are down on Bill, but I respect the man. I was messing around with computers before microsoft(god i fell old) Bill was just a "HACK" that was in the right place, at the right time, with the right product. It was really IBM that GAVE Bill all the power. If IBM had any future sight at the time the DEAL OF THE CENTURY went down we would all be running IBMSoft OS's Bill and his buddy only paid $50,000 for a "HACK" of CP/M that was fitted to run on 8086 CPUs. CP/M at that time ran in ROM on allot of units, but since this hack ran on floppy disks it was called Disk Operating System DOS for short, and the rest is history.

Google needs to be kicked in the pants...HARD! and I think Bill is just the man to do it. Google is also a hack. Do you know why the interface is "so clean and simple" because at the time of development and deployment the coders did not know much about HTML so they built the interface using the least amount of HTML possible :)

Start Office? You mean Star Office by Sun? No i didn't, but it should be a similar experience as with OpenOffice.org since it is based on Star Office..

If you mean something by MS (start package or something), then no.. nor am I interested in it..

    What's the point anyway?

I wouldn't say doomed. What about servers? Most of servers in the world run GNU/Linux, be it coming preinstalled anywhere or not.

Even if you meant doomed only on desktop, it's still a hard word to use. There is a growing business interest in GNU/Linux and in my opinion that can only sooner or later get even more of the major PC vendors to actually offer GNU/Linux preinstalled on PC's. I say "even more" because some already do.

It is therefore far from being "doomed" in any way, even in the extreme case of it not penetrating into desktop, it will always stay alive in the hackers/developers/geeks/enthusiasts/sysadmins community.

    Thanks
    Daniel
