Dreamweaver *code view* (Version 8, 2005, by Macromedia NOT Adobe) is still one of my favourite editors.
Coloured syntax highlighting, code hints, incredibly fast local search and replace (can be applied to an entire directory), and FTP so you can work live from the server.
I can't understand why more people aren't using it.

Oh.. and unlike Notepad, it has multiple undos. :p

Though of course Dreamweaver is for Windows, for people like me who uses GNU/Linux, I use GVim/Vim sometimes, also I have one called Scribes that is suppose to be similar to Textmate for Mac, though it is pretty nice. Though I don't do the WYSIWYG type, I tend to just use a text editor or maybe something with little more options but still have to hand-code the (x)HTML/CSS myself.

I also liked HTML-Kit pretty good. It is pretty nice to be free. Though I tend to use a regular text editor for my coding.

I tried out a free one when i was at college, can't remember it's name. The coding colours were different then dreamweaver, threw me right off... It has to be dreamweaver because the colours make sense (somehow). I only use it for the colours mind.

Dreamweaver is always the best but I have been using Serif Webplus 4 for speed on a few lately, its great for my netbook too so when I'm on the train a can pop a site together in 30 mins that looks OK and I have found that despite the huge amounts of inline CSS it indexes quite well, and its cheap when you have loads of machines

Seem so many people like to use dreamweaver, i also love it because it easy to design out a webpage but i hate those code behind which is still there even we have delete it and change other design. For example we create a table and so on, then later we remove the table in the screen but the code do not complete delete it. That why when we host it to internet. We can find out that it loading slower because of so many rubbish code in there which not complete deleted.

At this point it's probably easiest to customize Wordpress. But as far as desktop software, I don't think anything can beat Dreamweaver. I've used it for years. Old-school Frontpage 2003 is still pretty decent too.
