What is the best website design software?

I'm new to building websites and am looking for the best tool to build one with. Any suggestions would be great. I'm looking for the best dummy proof tool to use that nearly builds stuff automatically.

I guess I'm looking for the best dummy tool not necessarily the best one.

Your dummy proof tool won't give you a beautiful result, however, you can try Dreamweaver.

There is no better web development software than Notepad (or its countless equivalents). But, if you must use something to do it for you, Dreamweaver is the most popular.

Agreed. Learn to code by hand (html and css at least). It's not that hard, and you will benefit greatly from it. Makes trouble shooting a LOT easier!

yep dreamweaver is best idea, you can split code window and design to figure out the outcome of code side by side and many more things like drawing table frame etc etc etc :)

I'd been wanting to eventually learn how to design/ create template for website ut I don't know where to start. Can you point me in the right direction. If you want to alter the look via css what knowledge should you possess.

In terms of software, what do you need.

I'm really impress about the design that came up via the contest forum. I'm planning to put up something similar to design a logo and change the template of my website but since I'm a newbie. I don't have any permissions yet.

Just a matter of time, I suppose.

If you dont know code, and are not going to learn it. Use dreamweaver. But I would suggest to learn the code by hand first by using notepad or w.e That way troubleshooting in DW is a lot easier.

Image ready is no longer a product, all of its features have been consumed by photoshop (muhaha) in cs3. :)

but dreamweaver & photoshop would get you started as a designer.

Where do I buy those software that I need to get me started. How much would they costs?

I would love to learn how to design (including coding) websites and logo particularly for changing future layout of my own website. Is smarty good?

there are 2 roads you can take when it comes to your personal choices on software.

I know a really successful real estate broker, who's success is mainly based because he is a really good web developer. he does not use dreamweaver, he uses some random free coding application, and doesn't really care if he is using industry standard applications like dreamweaver or photoshop.

where I base the majority of MY success because I can say, YES I use dreamweaver or photoshop, and use what the majority of the world uses, because I have to collaborate with others to produce my work.

if you wanna be a professional designer / developer, use industry standards. like Adobe or others.

if your using web based skills to promote something else that you do, use what ever works and don't care about the rest. ;)

smarty = a template engine. from what I remember about it. it was a type of web application, that allowed a designer to pretend he was a developer, and do smart site construction, like including a header/footer dynamicly.

might be over your head for now.. I think its written in php, which is technically a step ABOVE design languages as far as complexity. :-/

Dreamweaver writes bad code for you. Notpad is definatly best but you have to know alot about HTML and CSS to do that. If you want a visual editor I would go for MS web expression.

Another thing to note about Dreamweaver and other "wyswyg" editors - as !Unreal mentioned above, most create sloppy code. If anyone (potential buyer, employer, etc.) looks at your source code, they will be able to tell...and this sloppy code could make you and your website appear to be unprofessional.

This might not be a big deal to you, but it's something to keep in mind.
