Just need some advice from the oldhand.

I've started few site which need some marketing work. I'm considering of using directory listing as well as some adsword (but with some budget limitation :) ). My question is, is there any other effective marketing strategy out there that I should consider ?

    thanks in advance

Is this for your wedding site? Because if it is then I suggest that you keep doing what your doing by providing a signature link in your forum posts, but try to find some forums that are related to weddings and related subjects.

I find that forums that allow signatures with links can generate alot of traffic (however usually not repeat traffic) from people who read the postings that they find in forums such as this.

    Hope this helps abit.

I have added my links to many directories but do not get much traffic from them. Directories are only good for creating backlinks. Don't expect much traffic from them.

johnnyappleseed, yes this is meant for wedding niche. I'm participating in wedding related forum as much as possible. I've just started, so still have not seen the outcome yet. thinking of using adwords if this approach did not give much result. I'm keeping the record in my blog. probably I'll share my blog later (after getting the result ofcourse). can be useful for newcomers.

ablaye, I dont realise that people do use directory for PR purposes. I though they do that just to get some residual visitor.

    thanks for info.

I personally submit my websites to free directories and buy some textlink spots on websites with good traffic and PR. I haven't look to AdWords since my website don't earn through selling of products.

My guess its all depend on your main objective. if your really serious, then you need to have some budget for ads. there are people doing adsense arbitrage. meaning buying cheap adwords for more expensive adsense click. its an art, havent tried though.

If you have the time you could try writing some Articles and spreading them around at the Article directories.

Personally I think the best approach is a MIX of various techniques. Do not waste too much money on either of them but try to cover as many as possible.

I've been using several techniques, but I have to say that from link building point of view, directory submission is the easiest way to get backlinks.

I also suggest writting articles that will have a link to your site in "about" box.

I would seriously consider using a Search Engine Friendly URL component for your Joomla installation though!!!

More optimization than marketing, but it will help

Try out also for link popularity by getting quality inbond links to your site, I think offline marketing is also going to help you a lot like yellow pages/ads on magazine/Brochure etc.

Submitting to article directories is definitly the best way to go, I would also recommend that you use ezine advertising too.

Writing articles definately is the best way of getting the traffic. unfortunately my area of expertise is not in line with my site theme :D . I'm a technical guy and I develop that site for my wife. will think of something.

    thanks guys for the opinion.

Rather than Adsense, you might want to go for the cheaper Adbrite.
