This should be moved to "Other Search Engines". But it just ranks sites, it's sorta bias because it only tracks hits thru sites via their toolbar.
Alexa ranking is based on stats obtained from those running Alexa toolbar. Supposedly it is meaningless since it is so easily manipulated.
That's what people say till' you ask them to prove it...then they disappear http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=48518
loads alexa tool bar, goto your website, hold F5 button for 2 mins, repeat daily or until desired traffic index is achieved ...
Hate to burst your bubble but www.alexatest.com has been doing that for months and you don't even have to hold F5
You can fool lower Alexa rankings, but you can forget to get into the top 10 000 with tricks. Rankings for the top 10 000 sites are much more reliable and do have value.
The value (if it is a higher ranking under the top 10 000) is that it gives an objective measurement of traffic to the site.
I agree if alexa rank only based on "alexa toolbar" users. But what alexa toolbar? Is it mean only on IE ? Is there any browser can installed alexa toolbar and counted by alexa ?
Well I don't know about everyone else... but I only use IE if i HAVE to. And I generally don't go to sites that only support IE. So Alexa ranking is pretty useless.
