I have a blog that I started about three weeks ago, www.noiseputty.com. When I started, Alexa had it ranked at about 1,275,000. I submit stories to it almost everyday, usually 2-3 posts. I've noticed that it ranks now at about 200,000. Daily ranking are coming at about 57,000. Could this actually be true, and could I actually be getting the traffic that it says I am? Are Alexa rankings even worth considering? All I've done in terms of promotions is ping the usuals. I've been spidered by Google a few times, but I'm not in the system yet. Comments, please.
it could be because the people who visit your site have alexa toolbar installed. the more people that use alexa toolbar and visit your site, the better your stats will be, since it guesstimates from those statistics.
Alexa really has no point. It's like winning some sort of trivia question contest on AM radio - you don't actually win anything - you just get to brag about it for a day or so to people who really don't care at all.
Alexa means nothing... it just means people that have the alexa toobar installed visited your site. This being said... more webmasters or people interested in meaningless rankings will improve your rankings once they visit your site. The rankings mean nothing as its just a poor "old school" way of determining a websites popularity or traffic. Ignore them as the rest of us do!
With Alexa, I can install the toolbar on my computer and withing a few weeks climb up into the 20,000 range. Once I uninstall I drop below 100,000 within that same amount of weeks. It does mean something though, as some people use it for advertising stats and it convinces a few people to actually advertise. (those people obviously dont understand how alexa works though and how easily it is manipulated)
I print out alexa's website when I run out of toilet paper. My butt seems to agree with the material.
Alexa rankings are only determined by Alexa toolbar users foremost. Also, they are very easily manipulated. Worse yet, Alexa is considered spyware by many as it is merely a datamining tool for Amazon to use in marketing techniques by tracking users online history. My Alexa ranking jumped from 90K to 11.2K just overnight? If only ....
That IS good. Lower Alexa ratings mean greater Alexa "popularity"... But wrmineo is correct. It's really a meaningless rating, even for butts...
I guess google will be building a real time accurate one using google analytics. I doubt it will be for public use. (just guessing)
