In the different people who've asked questions in some of my threads, or posted seperate discussions. I am going to jump into answer this question. There are many other adult people past, and present around, so they can jump into this as well. But I want to answer some of the hype, and give you some knowledge on this matter. I can't put it all in a single post, so I will have to add on as more things jog my memory. So let's get started. In reading through this board, and some of the forums, it always surprised me how people break their neck chasing adsense crumbs. All over the buy n sell forum.. how much adsense a site makes. $1, 3, 5 a day.... If I made that a day I would cry. Those posts, and some of my reading inspired me enough to write some of the following to give you a little knowledge... Building Adult Membership Site 1, 2, 3 http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=673120 Building a (fill in the blank) Membership Site http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=673149 Membership Sites 101 http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=647528&highlight=Membership+Sites Mentoring Offer - Adult Site - Breaking Into the Biz http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=652968 A lot of people have wrote me just to say thank you on the above things I wrote. Which I appreciate. It really was little more than me throwing out a few tips for those chasing adsense crumbs to pursue something more lucrative with their time. So let me start out this thread with some quick knowledge I've picked up in the past few weeks. A lot of people want to make money online full time. I know I did, and have been doing it full time for 4-5 years now, and was part timer while working at Ameritech the 5 years prior. I did it as a hobby on the site, celebrities, while working my 9-5 and making some extra nice money on a membership site. I tinkered in adult doing everything from buying content, to feeds, to affiliate marketing. Keep in mind, this was during the "glory days" of porn. Anyway, so I picked up a lot of experience then. Over time of launching sites, and then getting to where I create my own content for my sites, and making more money every year. I cut out the fat to make it a lean machine. As I added in more CMS scripts, and automation. Tracking to what does and doesn't pay, and cutting out the waste of time things. I managed to take my 12-18 hour work day down to 2. That's right. Two hours is approximately all I need to maintain my standard of living. Some will say, but you have shoot, and getting material. Correct. But on those days I do not submit galleries, or may not do other updates. So it balances out. People see getting into adult all wrong. For me it was never going to be something I was going to do forever. But it was a source of quick money I planned, and now use, to invest in my other mainstream ventures... web hosting, music, etc. It was a means to an end. Now I could go on with this, but let's get to the issue. Adult will make you more money than 99% of what I have seen on this board. Period. However, it, just like anything online, will require some creativity. You can't just read how everyone else does it, and then sit by and wait for the money to roll in. You have to take what you learn, and modify it. You ask you sick porn freak friends how THEY surf. What THEY look for. You find out what people are doing. Their habits, and cater more to them. I find a lot of people tailor their tricks to webmaster thinking. Face it. You are probably online doing more diverse things than most of your friends. How you surf, and navigate the web is not how they do it. Even when you look at a web page, your thought process, and theirs are two completely different things. You have to take the "you" out of the equation. Moving on, is there money in adult. Well, I am not cheap. So when people hire me to help them. They know they are going to get a return, and I will deliver what I say. That said, only people in adult seem to have any money to their name. Content, consulting, domains, websites. Few on the flip side seem to know what a website is truly worth. Or can monetize it. Now there are exceptions to every rule. So I am not making vast generalizations. I am simply saying, adult in general has a lot more money. People do not want to nickel and dime on $10 sites. If you look at the buy n sell forum on gfy for example, and you get people trying to buy a site for $100, or a domain for $3, they are laughed out of the thread. Is it because adult is so much more valuable? No. But I would say there are more real "playas" who do online full time in adult by comparison. You have more money, and real value on internet properties. By contrast, I would say mainstream has more diversity. But a lot of saturation in some markets. A lot more followers. People jumping on a band wagon because so-and-so is doing it. Or it's popular. You do not know how to make it pay, market, or monetize it. But you want to do it because everyone else is. Or, you want to do it because you think it would be cool. Well, sure. I would like to provide "cool" things as well that are revolutionary. But you are not keeping your eye on the ball. We are all in this to MAKE MONEY. If it's not MAKINH us MONEY, then it is COSTING US MONEY. Your bandwidth bill to freeloaders is an EXPENSE. You need to be recouping that expense on your traffic, members, whatever. You have to think of this AS A BUSINESS. If you fail, that is probably one of the biggest reasons. I talk to many, and some have the tap turned all the way open draining their profits, but crossing their toes waiting on the "whopper". You have the whopper already if you are making money. You are just flushing it down the toilet keeping your tap open. Post your questions, and I will try and answer them. This is a long issue, and I can't sum it up in a single post. Thanks for the read.
