A tutorial forum

    Hi everyone!

Wouldn't a tutorial forum be pretty helpful here on DP? I'm a mod on another pretty big forum (LEIA) and we have a tutorial section there, but with very strict rules, like:

    No outside links
    No requests
    No replies allowed
    No copy & pasted works
    No duplicated tutorials
    Proper language

And I think that works just fine. I mean, many newbies ask the same questions, so I thought if they read a tutorial instead it would be much better, wouldn't it? + tutorials are always helpful even if you're not a newbie. :)

No outside links? ;) Then who would post up their tutorials? Maybe atleast a credit to the tutorial source.. we would also have to monitor to make sure no copyright infringements occur..

Hehe, that's to make sure they don't do self-promotion, like:

    Great PHP tutorial! Look inside!

Go to my site and read it!

Something like that. Or copy anyone else's tutorial. :D

I love the idea of a Tutorial Forum. That would really help this community to grow even bigger.

:p I see, PHP tutorials would be great! But if we can't discuss about it ... then it would be more of a resource section of the site.. It would be great to be able to ask questions , discuss and improve the tutorial!

I think you can get infractions for those short pointless posts anywhere in the forum ;) more monitoring? You should've added a poll to see if anyone would actually contribute!

Its just infraction bait to be honest.

And this idea will only attract more newbish amatuers towards the forum, there are alot of them here already.

    No need at all.

You guys either didn't get me or I don't know... I wasn't talking about FORUM RULES, but a tutorial section where people can post Photoshop, PHP, HTML, SEO etc etc tutorials. Those are NOT only for newbies. I myself wouldn't mind to learn some new techniques and share my Photoshop tricks.

Look first of all we don't care if people come here to learn or whatever, this is a marketing forum not a school.

If they can't put up with it, then they do not belong here.

    end of story

I would normally support the idea of a tutorials forum but hey take a look at Digital Point, it has outgrown that principle quite some time ago. People have been asking the same questions again and again, even if there are tons of threads around topics that they're interested in.

Strict rules? Who do you think will follow them? I bet there is already a good amount of work that mods have been dealing with to keep this forum up and running at an acceptable level, and you want to give them more :)

Besides, take a moment to learn how much would Shawn care about an idea like this, he in fact might go ahead and shut forum sections down than create new ones that would generate more stress.

Most of them won't read, and will just keep on asking instead... It's much easier to post a question and wait for an answer than dig through tutorials... Well, that's the lazy rule, and you can't fight it much, can you.

@Clive: That was just an IDEA, I didn't say "Shawn, you must make a new forum". I just wanted to know other opinions. :p

@Gnet: You sound like if you're the owner of this forum..

I'm 99,99% sure that Shawn won't add a new forum, but everyone here is allowed (I hope) to to post their opinions and thoughts, that's why this section is called "Suggestions & Feedback". ;)

By the way, the rules I listed aren't necessary, that was just an example.
