1.) You are not yet nofollowing your contact us, privacy policy, terms of use and other un important pages. Put no follow tags <A href="http://www.mydomain.com" rel="nofollow"> on these pages that do not need to rank in the search engines. 2.)Your title tag sucks. In your title you have (home), (untitled) or just your business name. Well sorry folks most people are not going to do a search in google for untitled. So put some good keywords in your title that are related to your niche. Learn how not to use sucky title tags. 3.)You are not internal linking within your own site. Internal linking to other pages in your website is very important because it flows page rank and helps your pages get indexed and stay indexed. 4.)Your linking to the same page many different ways. Well this gives you a great idea of what your doing wrong and somewhat of an idea on how to fix it.. I will go into further detail in a future post soon... Yep I just started the blog and some of the info does require a password... but getting the password is free by becoming a much appreciated member
Well since I launched my new blog i want folks to become members and join in the conversation.... It's free and if you don't like then unsubscribe.. simple..
The point is that you have to signup on his site, its a trick. You want the info, so he makes you become a member of his site to get it.
I see no trick at all in providing great information like I always Have on DP Because I want only my members to get access to this free info...
I like the points that you have made, although I'd like some more proof that they actually work. The google algorithm is a complex multi faceted equation and I don't beleive that just changing a few simple things like this can really get huge returns, although I do think that many of your points are good practice from a website perspective.
You'd be surprised at what a few simple things can do for your rankings....and as far as proof, well lets just say I know first hand because I've ranked many many websites in the top ten in Google for some major keywords...
These are brilliant tips and I can definitely spot a few things I've been doing in a less than optimal way... I forgot all about doing no-follow on the pages that aren't important to searchers, thank you! In the end, it looks like as long as we strive to please the searcher we'll end up pleasing the Google algorithm, eh?
If you cant wait.. 1.) You are not yet nofollowing your contact us, privacy policy, terms of use and other un important pages. Put no follow tags <A href=â€http://www.mydomain.com†rel=â€nofollowâ€> on these pages that do not need to rank in the search engines. 4.)Links within your website to your home page say Home. You need to link to your home page within your website using your keywords. Dont link to your home page with home as your anchor text. 5.)Your still not using keyword rich file names for your images. Yes for image optimization using keywords as your file name is very important for your images to rank well. Don’t use picture.jpg as the name of your image. 6.)The backlinks to your website suck and are spammy. Don’t go hunting and stalking people trying to get footer links, sidebar, blogroll links, blog comment spamming, reciprocal links and submitting your website to hundreds of low quality web directories. These links have been known to Google to be abused and spammy, so IMO these types of links are discounted heavily and not worth the time. In a future post I will talk about what types of links you should be getting…. 7.)Every link to your page says the same thing. When Google crawls your links to your pages and every link that points to that particular page says the same thing, then Google knows that this is not natural link building and may penalize or ban your site. So mix up your anchor text to your pages. 8.)Your using your manufacturers descriptions and Duplicate content. This is a big one and can kill a website quickly. Just think about it your using the same content that is on almost every other ecommerce store and or website that sells your items, you have to make your product descriptions and pages unique. 9.)Your content sucks and you don’t have enough of it. Your content is written by some ghostwriter who copied and pasted most of the content. Your webpage only has 100 words of garbage that isn’t worth sharing or linking too. You need to make great, unique, keyword rich content and the more the merrier and make it easy to share. Don’t stuff your page full of the same keywords over and over. Use related keyword phrases. Think>>>> word relationships 10.)Your site structure sucks! You have pages that are 4 or more clicks away from the home page and have no internal links pointing to it within your website. You need to make every page in your website easily accessible via a link. Simple! Link to all of your pages whenever you have a chance. 11.)Your website is brand new. Dang! Give it awhile. You can not expect to rank for your major keywords in a couple of weeks. Ranking in Google for lots of different keywords takes time and hard work. So if your not ready to work then ranking in Google is not for you. 12.)Your linking to the same page many different ways. In Google’s eyes http://www.mydomain.com, http://www.mydomain.com/index, http://mydomain.com all these are the same page to us and the user visiting the page but to Google these are 3 different pages. Choose the appropriate page and only link to that page. You can also run into some duplicate conent issues if your getting all these variations of the same page indexed. 13.)Your url is not search engine friendly. If your url looks like this http://www.mydomain.com/itemdy00.asp?T1=1404 IMO that page will not rank as well but not get as high of a CTR as something that is more SE adn user friendly like this http://www.mydomain.com/dog_frisbee.html
First rule is something a lot of people seem to forget when not using a CMS that already does this for them.
