Time for some drama queening... It's been... 10 Days... 10 Hours... 10 Minutes... and 10 Seconds since my last post! Those who've been here a while might remember I did a few cliffhangers before, leaving members guessing what was going on. Whilst it was fun to watch two threads about the suspense, I was/am quite busy actually pulling the greatest tricks of my professional career. 10 Days worth of not getting involved saves a lot of time, even when modding still eats hours. So yeah, joined 2 years and a few months ago, the 114th member to sign up here; it's been a while. Let's churn out some useless facts shall we? On average I post 30 words per post, that's 300K words in ten thousand posts! According to a quick Google search, "The average novel, or work of fiction, contains rather more than fifty thousand words[...]" so I've written 6 books here in just over 2 years Make that 6 Da Vinci Codes and I'd have been the richest guy on the forum I average 11.49 posts a day. Considering I do 30 words per post and there are 50K words in an average novel, I do one book every 20 weeks. Mind you, if I take well over 2K PMs into account then those numbers aren't accurate at all. There are currently 101 banned members with my name next to it and probably another 100 who are out of prison again. Made so many friends Other statistics I take great pride in are the current 'Most users ever online' - a record set on March 6th when I Dugg DPF and Shawn's blog to a sudden death. And I didn't leave that at just once either, I'm the record holder for crashing this forum, as Hulkster noted. I've been threatened with stabbings for my efforts... It's interesting when you look at the forum 'cycle' here on DP. For me it was very much a case of sucking up every bit of information I could in those early months here. The first 6-9 months here on DP I spent learning, learning and learning more. I knew nothing about SEO, never heard of AdSense either. Didn't even know you could manipulate your sites' ranking. Shoulda woulda coulda made a lot of money a lot earlier! Being the intelligent person I am I became rather good at the game fairly quick, having learned from such experts like DPs seniors Compar, Owlcroft, Schlottke, Expat, Foxy, Such Great Heights, Old Welsh Guy, GuyFromChicago, DigitalPoint and many others. It's a shame many of those early DP adopters aren't as actively present here anymore as they used to. I remember them all helping me become a successful SEO and internet marketer, I've learned so much from their unselfish replies to n00bish posts. After that first year I had much fun with the roles reversed, helping the floods of new DP members learning about SEO. Those were the days I topped the rep list, was the first to get that precious second green blob and all the other trivial achievements. My DP addictions landed me the in many ways thankless job of being a moderator here. More hours on DP! Now some highlights of my 'career'... Highs, in no particular order: Meeting dct and Foxy @ Foxy's Restaurant, also photo's here. Meeting SEbasic at an internet conference in London. And then meeting SEbasic and dct for a night out in London. Got made look a like a fool on my 4Kth post celebration thread, Campaigning for DP Mayor, too bad I lost, Got 1000 magott's eggs in my brain for causing a PR Update frenzy, Shawn flies to the UK to stab pub owner who kicked me out Launched Co-op FAQ - boy that I get a lot of referal weight from that!, I was once brave enough to engage in discussions with AC, After 7 months I was the first to welcome Shawn and Pretending DP got hacked and thousands believing it... I joined when the forums got around 80 posts a day, became a Moderator when we did around a thousand and now we are rapidly approaching 6K posts a day. It's phenomenal growth that still baffles me every day. Since the first time I went to a big rave, seeing 30 thousand people listen to one DJ, I always fantasized about doing similar things. 'Running' DP is almost like that Running out of time, need to post this... Will post a follow up with the 'Lows'... Please post if you remember any interesting moments I left out...
There was me going to ask did you actually learn anything apart from writing the 6 books? so thanks for the answer, lol. Well done sir.
As promised, also the 'Lows': Shoe hates me No replies to my thread yet 1,119 views :S My dad accused of ringing dodgy porn lines Shawn thinks I'm worth less than a dollar... ... But then flies out to check I'm OK. Yfs1 Hacks DP and haunts me It was unveiled I am just a puppet of our very own spam bot Disgracing nothing less than mankind in its entirety Having dreams about fellow members I up until that point had never met... When you start dreaming about SERPs, DP members and what not, that should be a sign a member needs to cool it down a bit. Other signs one is a DP addict is mousing over all links on the web, waiting for a pop-up with the first few lines of the target page. I find myself doing that almost every day, on all sites I visit. Very annoying they don't off that like here on DP. My best threads according to number of replies: "Contemplating Leaving DP..." - 212 "Spot The Asshole" - 161 "England vs Portugal" - 154 Having said that, I'm almost certain I also hold the record in threads started with no replies. I counted at least half a dozen, where my first post was probably way too demanding or intellectually challenging I hope this post is still here when I'm retired in 10 years, so I can sit on the beach looking at this remembering the good old DP days... Thanks turfsniffer and Matt. I figured that, after leaving so many in anxious anticipation (you should see the number of PMs and reps I've had 'reminding' me of my post count + those two threads) I had better come up with something at least slightly unconventional and perhaps entertaining.
Red rep from those who hate old threads to surface, probably If you post something sensible, I'll counter those with some green.
You have me mistaken with someone else, but thanks for congratulating me anyway. Thank you too, Mickey Mouse Goldman Lazy Mofo
no one would have believed, but i actually just read the first post and the threads you linked to! Umm I missed a lot of fun, hope I'll meet you guys some time too TOPS, good job! I must say I laughed a lot at a bunch of your posts before
10days 10 hours 10mins 10secs... How were you able to abstain from posting in DP for such a long time? No withdrawal symptoms? Congrats T0PS3O..
