1 and 1 webhost, are they reliable?

I'm planning to host my new vbulletin forum in 1 and 1 host. After going through some very bad review, i decided to not to trust reviews. Because it just looks like scam. So, dear dp members have you tried their hosts? Please post your experience with them here. Or suggest me a good webhost other than hostgator, godaddy and blue host. They should accept paypal.

One and One Sucks! I wouldn't touch them with anyone else's money, never mind my own. In my own personal experience they are the worst hosting company to have ever existed and if you use them you will live to regret it sooner or later, imo.

I don't know if they are any good. I've rarely seen anything good said about their support, but they are the largest hosting provider in the world so they must be doing something right.

What you tend to find with larger companies is that they have a set of rules and policies and these are set in concrete. If you break one of them you're out (you're just a number to them) or if they think 48 hour support responses are reasonable then that's what you have to live with. There is no flexilbility, negotiation, or reasoning with them, and their customer-facing teams rarely have the ability to put together a custom deal, but if you're fairly self-reliant and know exactly what you're getting for your money, V large consumer-targetting hosting companies can be economical.

Mid to smaller companies tend to have better informed front-line staff who are more experienced and more able to help you. If price is the issue, go for a large but cheap provider such as 1&1. If other factors are important to you, you might be better off looking elsewhere.

    What is wrong with HostGator?

Would you mind trying a smaller company?

Thank you for your support guys. Hostgator is a bit selfish, they want to put this advertisements in all the 404 pages :( now i'm planning to go for ipage.

You can setup your own custom error pages with HostGator, can't you?

I think you need to do some search for their reviews first of all. They are very big and they have a lot of customers around the world.

If you're looking for quality, sometimes the biggest host isn't necessarily the best. 1and1 has quite a few bad reviews. The best thing you can do, as suggested, is when your looking at a particular host, do some searching for reviews of that host to get an idea from others that can offer 1st hand experience.

    I've used 1 and 1.

Stay well clear! The service is reliable in as much as uptime and speed but it's billing where the problems lay.

It's probably their way of luring you into their crappy hosting.

I've been with 1And1 and it was a nightmare, instead I went to smaller hosting companies and they were a lot better (even the support was better, because they weren't handling 20 people at a time :/)

Currently I also started selling hosting myself, InfinitumHosts offers unlimited reseller hosting, but also unlimited shared hosting.

If you (or someone else) would be interested, please send a message and we might look for something. ;)

Never go with 1and1.com they are unreliable, they will promote as if they give for low cost but will start charging in the name of contract. For that there are many other good hosting providers available try mochahost.com which offers 30 days money back guarantee

Have you used them personally? For me it sounds a if you are under impression of their negative reviews.
