i'm one of those badly affected by this latest update which (so far) seems to have wiped out a good part of seo island! i've been checking forums here and there but i have yet to come across a theory which makes sense, given what happened to my sites (which are basically re-sandboxed). one thing i did notice is that my allinanchor ranking for top keywords has dropped from within the top ten right down to 30, 40, or 50. that is kind of weird and i've never seen that before. it's not as if the actual anchors on the pages linking to my sites have changed all of a sudden. so G must have changed the way the allinanchors are counted, or G is not including a number of sites in its count. given that the sites linking back to my sites are heavily seo'd, i would guess the latter is true. but then again, i have yet to come across a site that has been banned completely. strange. could G be discounting anchors on your links pages if you are seo'd to the hilt? anyway, my question is, anyone else notice a huge drop in allinanchor ranking? haven't seen any posts about that yet. also, has anyone experienced a temporary drop in allinanchor rank during previous updates (while allinanchors were being counted, perhaps) which came back up after the update?
Yes, my site dropped from allinanchor position #2 to #48 for one term and #1 to #41 for another term. Adding fire to insult, allintext, allinurl, inanchor and stuff is also dropped.
Does allinanchor have any relevance to position in google? inurl appears to have a closer match to actual position.
Dropped from 17th allinanchor to 114 ouch, got hammered allintitle as well. I have started to remove any doggy links (gotlinks ETC) and vary my anchor text.
no that's yahoo. yahoo loves allinurl. but as far as google is concerned, mcdar's tool taught us that allinanchor is pretty much identical to serp rank most of the time. which is why i wasn't tracking anything else. i should have been paying more attention, like tuning and werebear.
*anyone else notice a huge drop in allinanchor ranking?* Not huge but noticeable, particularly with mid-competitive pages relying solely on internal links/anchor text.
I'm seeing it. From #4 to ~#30 for my top term allinanchor, and out of the top 100 from top 20 for allintitle. Heavy anchor text seo from Link Vault but plenty of legit links too. Site is from early 2004 and was sandboxed for a while.
This is an ISSUE with Google! The "allins" have not dropped back yet but look at my position rebound today. Caryl
I wonder if the updated cache image had anything to do with the rebound in ranking though as opposed to allin issues.
I maintain the ISSUES we are seeing is due to Google losing pre-scored data. Sites will rebound once Google has cached new pre-scored results. My site did NOT rebound from #753 to #26 due to my allinanchor changing from #794 to #802. I believe it is due to the fact that Google is starting to re-calculate the pre-scores. I expect the "Allins" to follow suite. I have extensive documentation of this very thing happening back in February /March of this year. This is NOT a new algorithum it is Google having ISSUES. Caryl
Caryl, you could be right. In that G has lost some, but by no means all, data on a given site. That would explain why some keywords aren't hit whilst others tank big style and yet more sort of dump to intermediate levels. It would also epxlain why Gbot is hammering my sites which have lost SERPs.
You could start reading "the big thread" at this point: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=256&page=168&pp=10 Much of the documentation should be linked to from there. Naturally, if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. Caryl
I suppose the older/authority sites like mdars site will get the adjustment first the small fish like my site, will hopefully get adjusted in the days to come? Like the PR 10 - 9's sites get PR updates first. Only time will tell.
The site my page is on shows a date of March 2000. BUT The page on that site that I have been extensively documenting was brand new April 7, 2004. Caryl
i see! thank you caryl you are giving me a glimmer of hope. i logged on just now to check out a bunch of new domain names for my core sites, but i will resist the temptation to migrate content just yet. fancy google not backing up their data! but with x billion web pages to track, index, and store, i guess this sort of thing is inevitable.
It's probably more a matter of they are not aware of the problem OR have assessed that it will work itself out in the natual progression of things, so just let it go. This sort of thing has happened many times in the five plus years I've been around. In the old days, folks were made to wait until the next "Google Dance" (~ once per month) to see their sites return. Googles algo runs much differently now days.
