For the better part, the Meta team runs the directory. Yes, AOL owns them, and yes, there is staff on hand, but they do little in the way of how the directory actually runs. If AOL actually cared, they would do more then just adding CAPTCHA to get the place up to speed ;)

aol owns the dmoz but meta editors controls the directory. meta editors are the persons who voluteers to money (not directory or a category).

It seems to me that they are missing a lot of editors. I have submitted some sites that have no reason not to be included and after 6 months still nothing.

Well, wussadotcom... you are correct, though the Google clone really has nothing to do with who runs DMOZ.

[DP thread on it] ODP Sold To BOTW? for more information...

Though, it seems it'll likely not happen. The rumors started on Shoemoney's site and there has been no real word from either AOL or BOTW. *shrug*

Though I really do wish it would happen ;)

Thanks I was wondering this myself. Appreciate the info...and yes...I would blame AOL...all they were ever good for was giving me a very unique coaster set with all of those free CDs!

AOL owns DMOZ but it is run by a bunch of mostly corrupt individuals called Admins and Metas. The revenue model is either based on selling listings in DMOZ or listing their own site, so the can generate income through affiliate programs that they run on their site. :D
