One important comment for the early version of site sift listings (and feedback was given at the time) was that user passwords weren't encrypted - so if you are a lazy webmaster and repeatedly use the same password you've just given away access to a great number of sites. You might like to check with Stu to see if this has been addressed.

The latest version of Site Sift Listings doesn't even have/use members. We revamped and streamlined the submission process. ;)

Just in case anyone someone isn't familiar with the features a list can be found here: http://scripts.site-sift.com/features.php. For only being 3 months old this script has tons of features.

A few other have commented on the greatness fo phpLD already, so I won't add to it.

However, I did try an article directory, and here is my review.

Directory script name : Article Dashboard
    URL of directory script: http://www.articledashboard.com/download.htm
URL of your directory (will be included in the article) : no longer exists
    Programming language : php
    Type : Free
I used this for just a couple of weeks. It was easy to setup and install, and has a good support forum. HOWEVER, after just a couple of weeks, my directory script was hacked. According to my host, the hacker used articledashboard to gain shell access to the server. Many writable files across several domains were affected. This resulted in a few of downtime for many of the domains on the shared server. Scripts such as forums, support systems, and other php scripts were affected, and had to be reinstalled. The hacker was also able to disable Zend Loader, and deleted several databases.

Well here are my 2cents. Hope it helps ya out...

Directory script name : PhpLD & Esyndicat [yea, using both]
    URL of directory script: http://www.phplinkdirectory.com/ & http://www.esyndicat.com/
URL of your directory (will be included in the article) : http://www.sc2.info [phpld] & http://www.indexrated.com [Esyndicat]
    Programming language : PHP
Type :look in this thread for the free/paid type description
Your comments (in your own words, on any aspects of your directory script) : Well to start of with, i had never planned to open any sort of directory but coming here and seeing lot of people doing it, i thought, why not give it a try. So i first hunted down the most popular directory script...PHPld is quite popular in directory script world. So i thought lets get on with it, installation was easy and the css based design really helped be out in designing the directory my way. 1 thing i can say about phpld is its quite easy to submit sites and also the listing get crawled easily...atleast thats what i feel. But the image verification and recip problem as mentioned earlier haunt this directory script like anything else. Other then that, its the best directory script around to make a general directory with paid submission and all.

Esyndicat : Well i dont know much about it but seems to be new player in market. At first look, its preety pro looking and easy to surf directory with lot of typical features such as alexa ranking, google pagerank and site preview. Its very easy to customise the templates too and with lots of skin to choose from it make it an attractive choice but more look in to it and you will find some nooks that really need to be sorted out. The main problem : its search function. its broke in mine. it maybe mine but in this topic itself i saw another post claiming the misfunction of the search box. It becomes more important when the submission format is going to the particular category and then submitting. Also a tricky paypal payments for paid links. So when it comes to showdown between this two scripts, its phpld with its experience leading slightly on esynidcat but propositions are more good for esyndicat as it is really easy and simple architecture it is built on.

There, im done for tonite. Hope this gives insight into some scripts atleast.

Directory script name : PHP Link Directory

    URL of directory script: http://www.phplinkdirectory.com/

URL of your directory: Real Estate Directory - EstateRound.com

    Programming language: PHP

    Type :
    1. Free Version Available (PHPLD 2.0)
    2. Paid Version Available (PHPLD 3.0) - $25 w/backlink, $75 wo/backlink

Comments : (On Free version only, not yet on 3.0 but soon)
    Pros.
    1. Search engine URL friendly.
    2. Reciprocal and link status checker included.
    3. Easy link management.
    4. Support payment via Paypal
    5. Three types of link (featured, reciprocal, regular)
    6. Many MODs from people contributed via forums.
    7. Absolutely FREE

    Cons.
    1. Hard to edit or integrate outsources template (I don't understand smarty template as well)
    2. You've to modded so many to make it works well with functions you might need. (;) many mods waiting out there in forums for free version)
    3. some problem with sitemap generated from outsources. you've to apply sitemap that created for phpld only for better results (but 3.0 it's easy, Google xml sitemap included with yahoo sitemap integration)

    Rating for FREE version : 85 / 100 ;)

I haven't gone back to check but has anyone reviewed Duncan Carver's "Link Management Assistant". I trialled it briefly but found it a bit unwieldy. I didn't give it much of go, I was more using it to stir up NBO.

So what are good ones? PHP linkdirectory seems popular. I have been to their forum and read some about the bugs...as any script out there got bugs. I want a php script that shows the true URL, not with user ID= thingy ya know.

well, I don't think it will be free, but probably for some "low" price...
But you know as soon as it's available for purchase people will buy it like crazy and very soon everybody will only be using my script, all other directory scripts will be dead and forgotten.. so you may want to wait some more time till it's released.. :p ;)

It's not important, as to the script's cost. It may be free or not.

And anyway, after the article is made, i can always add more info ;)

ok.. let me see the article after it's done, will you?
I haven't seen any real article for quite a lot of time.. it should be a really good article guess. :)

I never write anything myself and I'm used to buy them for cheap and then the quality goes down..
