The dumbing down of DP...

Discussion in 'General Chat' started by Kerosene, Nov 16, 2007.

Am I the only one who thinks that DP has been experiencing a serious 'dumbing down' over the last few months? I've had just about enough of threads like "What is AdSense", "What is best keyword, suggest me please" etc...

What happened to all the smart alecs who could cut down a useless thread with a wisecrack and a "use the search function" remark? They were everywhere when I first started posting on DP... Where have you all gone?

This is a FORUM...which means it's meant for DISCUSSION. Just because someones asks what adsense is (granted, yes it's annoying as hell)...it's still nice of us to politely inform them, and then inform them that there is a search feature and to try using it next time...(maybe they are new to forums or something)...

I'm glad all the people that used to just post "use the search function" are gone/not doing it anymore...as i for one find them more annoying than the person asking the question...someone saying that is just adding to the amount of spam that is here as it's a pointless post unless they actually try and help the op as well as inform them about search/etc...(i for one report anyone i see doing something like that)

i used to do that, but i don't bother doing it anymore, there are too many fucktard in DP (i only use BST and GC anyway cause other forum are a waste of time)

that's why i love wickedfire, those fucktard won't last a second over there.

DP is half dead, even people w/ thousand of post can't start a thread in the right forum
    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=559681

and seem like people can't read here. I saw a thread "[wtb]cvcv.com", and none of the respond contain a cvcv domain...

i'm still here, and giving wise cracks.
but i have more enjoyment tracking down and getting banned, scammers with dupe accounts and other such like riff raff that has no place on DP

They realized those remarks were getting as old as the questions they refered to. :D

Don't ask me any questions, but I've got two words for you.

that just proves that post count has no correlation with IQ :D lol

though i don't think DP is anywhere near half dead...250,000+ (about) posts per month doesn't sound half dead to me

kill the freebie section, filter all those "pm sent" , "thanks for the advice" and "i agree blah blah" post and see how many post left

    quality > quantity

Which mostly consist of "What is blabla ... suggest me?" threads, followed by 10 replies all saying the same thing.

@ samantha pia - DP needs more iron maidens to keep us in line. I'm scared of you, and I know I'm not the only one (which is a good thing!).

no need to be scared of me lol i only bite when it's a full moon, once a month ;)

mods have their hands full so as i am online 16 hours a day i just keep my eye open for posts and threads that hint at something not right, and then i go looking for the evidence and send it to the admin, and poof their gone. 98% of time.

only 1 has not been banned from the last 50 submitted :p

I don't think it's 'mostly' those threads...though there are quite a bit of them...too many i agree...would be neat to add a feature that checks for similar threads before a post goes through, and recommends the user check those before finalizing the new thread...i think that would solve a good bit of it (though not all of course)

I used to do it sometimes but it's just not worth it. Although, when I come across something totally stupid I will just leave neg rep, it's quicker and probably irks those people a bit more especially if they have no rep bar :)

I especially hate unrelated comments in a good thread or someone just saying something random about a subject they know nothing about. Like someone will ask how to get their Adwords CPC down and then some idiot will pop in saying you can make lots of money with Adsense it's great. Like wtf?

Anyhoo, this is still a good forum, there's just a lot of garbage to sift through which is why I also hang out at WF.

You know, more n00b users would probably use the search if it actually worked. And now, with the captcha added, it's just ridiculous. It's easier to post a question 4 or 5 times than go through the hassle.

I agree with what m0rtal said as well. I find myself going more and more to WF for info. You ask a crappy question there, you'll get seriously flamed.

what captcha are you talking about? there is no captcha for registered users...which you would have to be to post...
