In my opinion: Black Hat Tactics: Driving a visitor to a website by unethical SEOs and the website has no real content & the visitors do not find it useful. Grey Hat Tactics: Driving a visitor to a website by unethical SEOs but the website does have real content which a visitor can find useful.
Black hat : well and truly over the line of acceptability Grey hat : borderline White hat : playing by 'the rules' Can be applied to anything in life.
Black Hat using your 3l33t skills for gaining profit in a unethical manner. Grey Hat I consider to be if someone steals your account you will do everything and anything to get it back. White Hat is just pen testing, so you find a hole in googles security and you alert them.
Black Hat - also known as search engine spamming. Its a seo that pushes the boundaries of ethical practice. Example: cloaking,doorway pages and link-farms Gray Hat: almost seo falls in this category, its in between, not consider as white nor as black hat. Example of this is duplicate content.
Grayhat is stuff that should be considered Blackhat, but since alot of advertising dollars are generated from it & it can't definitively be called Blackhat it's tossed in the gray area.
