he did say that, not exactly about getting accepted but if you have done everything right there is a chance that you'll get accepted

Edit: Totaly agree with minstrel, there is 50/50 chance though

Guys it is a lottery, plain and simple. But like the lottery if you buy more tickets you increase your chances of winning. I didn't say you would get accepted, as there simply is no guarantee. ALL I said was you can improve your chances by doing what I suggested.

Your job is to make it easy for the editor to accept you. When I login, I scan the submissions, and if the titles are obviously hype, then I skip them and do the ones that look right. Those are the people who have taken the time to do it right, so those are the ones who get my time first.

Gee, I should have checked back sooner on this, sorry I didn't. Not say it to you in person? I'm sure I would, in fact now I'd make a point of it. Many who have had any dealings with the ODP, particularly in the past few years, are forced to come to the same conclusions as I have.

Why does the ODP get DNS errors and everyone else doesn't? It's easy to claim anything when you're as insulated as the editor community seems to be. You ask for proof? Why should I make an effort to prove something that is pretty much in the realm of common knowledge? The reputation of the ODP is in the toilet right now in many circles. I would say if anyone needs to prove anything it's the editor community of the ODP. It's an open directory, how about the editors open up a bit and let people know what the hell is going on there? Maybe it's not corrupt, but at this point the burden of proof is on you, not me.

I think you misunderstood what Open in ODP means.
For DMOZ Open only means that anyone is free to use our data (we only ask for a reference back to our system). And nothing more. DMOZ is not open for anyone to get their site listed. It is not open in such a way that we are responsible to anybody but ourself and the other editors.

Yahoo is pay for inclusion. When the money runs out you should appear where you would organically. The directory is a different thing, pay and your in.

I see no point in replying to ODp crticisms any more, as there is nothing anyone can do to change it. As I have said, submit, do it once, do it right and forget about it.

Just become an editor. I did. It's easy, make sure you fill out the form as if you were applying for a job. Be professional in what you say, like in an interview.

And read the guidelines and be sure to have some experience in the category you are applying for.

Wow. Ok, I guess it's not easy. I did have real life working experience in the category I applied, so maybe that's what helped.

I like DMOZ, simply because it's good for the Internet to have a directory that is completely managed by people and not automated through algorithms.

The only downside is getting enough editors to manage all the categories.

Responsible editors with a sufficient moral code, that is.

I could easily add one of my sites to the category that I'm an editor of, but then it doesn't fit 100% perfectly in that category, so I don't do it. I wonder if there are other editors though that do not have the scruples to not do this.

However, I do agree with you about Yahoo. The fact that Yahoo requests paid inclusion is something that I don't like about them.

I applied to become an editor for the category that is related to my site, so I just an email from Dmoz, that I could not become an editor, probably because my English is not very good.

Adding links from your site to DMOZ and Yahoo will not help.

I suppose maybe she just meant it in the sense that she hates not getting any response for her submissions. ?
