i know a few bands who have setup shop with cafepress and have made -some- money from it, but they also are not really pushing the products. the suggestion i gave them when asked nearly the same question: use cafepress as a stepping stone. if you sale big with them, then you know you need to find someone else to make your products at a better price. also they are not using cafepress as their selling point, they have websites setup listing their products with links to cafepress. this way your traffic is yours, and if you choose to leave cafepress, you can keep that traffic.
