Here is where some of the issues were reported at the phpLD forums way back in June of last year. Of course numerous threads were made, so you can do a bit of searching to find them all.

Basically, after upgrading to 3.02 and 3.03, search engines would drop the directory like a bad habit. in the end, Boby offered a new index.php that was suppose to fix the problem, but it never worked. It seems that those versions reported errors to search engines, and the pages would be de-indexed. After a few months, a new release of phpld came out, and instead of fixing those versions. they are still available for purchase and download, if anyone wants to try them out to see for yourself.

Yes 3.1 has been out since late last year and 3.2 was just released so I would have to ask any new PHPLD customer why they would choose an old version of the script when starting their site even with it still being available, but then the haters would have one less thing to focus on...

As an example, Surpass hosting uses phpsuexec to control security on their servers. Anything past phpLD 3.06 will not run on their servers, so many people are forced to use an older version.

Then due diligence by the prospective buyer which would include searching PHPLD's own forum as witnessed by the link you yourself provided would lead someone to either switch hosts or find another solution

Except that problems with it are all noted in the supporters forum, which cost $10 to enter. You can't find out the needed info, unless you are a paid supporter member. Perhaps a disclaimer on the bad versions would be more appropriate, instead of selling them to unknowing people?

    All scripts have errors???
Bet there not still available for download?

If a script has a problem inform buyers, remove the download and fix the damn thing.

If a product offers great support people will keep coming back.

    Thanks Brian

Yaa about that, seems like every version of phpld which comes out to fix one bug happens to have some other bug, could be cause different coders get hired to code instead of one coder working on it all the time ?

    Cheers

Definitely need to make it fool proof as much as possible. :)
I removed some of the older downloads from the user area and wrote "Latest Version" next to 3.2.0 go make it blatantly clear.

We support lots of people that are not part of the supporters forum, but free support only goes so far.

And where exactly does the so called " Paid support" goes to ? Does it extend to mars too ? From one of your own post

Thats from the $10 supporter area, where my request was never fulfilled. Only got the blank response that $10 can do only so much as install new script and help upgrade thats pretty much.

    Why not?
    or
Is there specific parts that will not work?

I just got a test account on one of their shared servers to test
It installed well and is working fine.
    phpsuexec is on this server.

In all honesty, I can't see a new installation using anything but the the latest version so the 'bad' version will not be downloaded by new users.

And when you say selling them to unknowing people, unless I am mistaken, if you purchase the licence for v3 you gain access to ALL versions, so no one is paying $25 for a 'bad' version, infact they are paying ONLY $25 for all versions.

I will gladly give ftp access to any of the phpld staff, if they would like to test out some of Surpasses servers. I dont need anything installed, but you are welcome to use one of my servers for testing. I can tell you this. Anything above 3.06 will NOT install out of the box on any of my 3 servers I rent at surpass. 3.06 and below installs flawlessly.

We actually went directly to hostdime (owns surpass too) after you mentioned the problem, and have a test account running right now, and it worked fine without any troubleshooting, so it may be some issue of the server you are running. If you will send me ftp access, I will gladly test it for you and see the issue. I'm sure we can figure out what it happening.

(There are a couple of us on phpLD that have servers with hostdime, so we are pretty used to working with them)

it is servers that you rent and have control over and not stock shared accounts?
