A few discussions about white/black/grey hat SEO have already been started at DP. You might want to have a look at these threads... http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=96701 http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=144416 http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=50167
White hat seo is an ethical way to promoting a website and Black hat seo is an unethical way to promoting a website.
White hat = Good content, manual backlinking (although it can be automated). Safer, but takes more time and effort. Black hat = Mostly sneaky, spammy SEO methods. Faster and easier, but could get you heavily penalized if you don't know exactly what you're doing.
Black hat is basically SHADY techniques to get your site ranking. White hat is more of a natural approach to help your site naturally get rankings. However, any form of SEO is technically black hat to Google as you are trying to alter their index to fit your needs. Just my 2 cents.
Black Hat SEO is practice of getting good search engine rankings in an unethical manner, meaning it is against the search engine rules. It may lead into some consequences, penalties and ban. While White Hat SEO is the proper way of getting good search engine rankings
White hat SEO means Doing all off-page and on-page activities as per Google Standard rules. where as black hat SEO means Doing all Off-page and On-page activities without following the Google Standard rules.
White Hat SEO refers to the usage of SEO strategies, techniques and tactics that focus on a human audience opposed to search engines and completely follows search engine rules and policies Black Hat SEO refers to the use of aggressive SEO strategies, techniques and tactics that focus only on search engines and not a human audience, and usually does not obey search engines rules.
Both are good, just do them RIGHT. Whitehat is the proper way to do it, by the book so to speak. Blackhat is the 'out of the box' short term way of doing things (largely speaking). Both have their uses, both are effective.
