Are directorys dead and becoming worthless?

    and I ask this as a forum directory owner. it just seems to me that google has or is making those backlinks worthless...and people don't go to directory sites to find a certain website.

    so makes me wonder if they will be a thing of the past??



    o, and by the way, if you are a forum/blog/community website owner, feel free to submit to my directory lol :D

    If the directory would be a cup that was full of small holes (outlinks) there wouldn't be much of juice to pass from one hole. If someone would pour plenty of juice into the cup you could receive some of it even trough a small hole.

    I think people don't visit directory sites (excluding gigantic ones like Yahoo or DMOZ) unless they come to the directory from the SERPs.

    directories are booming for local services like plumbing and contracting, even restuarants.. even though those industries are not booming at all.. but directories just for website link are... game over!

    Most of the directories only help increase link popularity or keyword rankings. Directories wont provide direct traffic.

    as a directory owner, I wanted to have a discussion about whether or not directories are becoming obsolete. I received 5 negative reps with some hateful things said. just surprised thats all

    Niche directory submissions, link submissions to related categories with different anchors still yield good results in se's. They are free links, so using them is no harm.

    Didnt know you had a directory... thought your just another directory hater

    Its the way you worded the title thread, and the fact everyone is having slow submits due to the
    economy/summer time and nobody wants to see anything negative towards directories as it could
    potentially push submitters away... ;)

    PS... Next time word your thread better without using "DEAD or Worthless" and you wont get
    blasted with red or become hated on by everyone... (common sense)

    I think directories are worthless because they have massive numbers of outbound links within the sites...

    The value of a link is usually split up amongst all those links pointing at external sites and there literally thousands of these from within most directories...

    Does anybody else agree with this theory?
