I have some stuff on website marketing, particularly press releases.

Unless your willing to invest greatly, I dont think you will acheive your target, you need to develope your knowledge of the internet, jargon, ect through reading and experience.

Thank you all for the tips. I have run some successful forums, but not a site in particular. Thanks again.

What do you mean "invest greatly"? You can do your own press release and manually distribute it for free quite successfully as long as you put time into finding proper contacts. Sure, you can spend a small fortune for someone with access to a media contact database to do it for you (I'm fortunate in that I run a PR firm and have access myself) but you can find the same information by putting the time in. Not only that, but the "real" newswires like AP are free anyway. They're just more discriminating, and most of what people consider news in relation to their own business really isn't important enough to get on there.

The only thing you need to be thinking about as far as press releases go is making yourself truly newsworthy in the first place. If you'll put in the time, you can do the rest for free. Sometimes it's better to hire a professional to help you out if you can't write well for the media. But I think saying "invest greatly" to get results is a huge exaggeration.

    Hello,
I just checked out how to write a press release, looks easy enough. Now where do I submit these online and offline? Thanks

Best results are through submitting offline directly to media outlets. Either hire someone who has access to the databases and contacts to do it for you (which can be expensive), or simply decide what outlets would be most likely to cover your story, find their contact info, call them and ask for the name of the appropriate editor or journalist, and fax it or email it depending on what they prefer.

    As for newswires:

If you have something truly newsworthy, submit it to Associated Press.

    www.prweb.com
    www.pr.com
    www.prleap.com
    www.i-newswire.com
    www.free-press-release.com

There are much longer lists here on DP with distribution sites. Just do a quick search.

I have submitted the site to PRs, the way they have those setup, I can't format it as I did on a Word Processor, but we'll see how it works.

My best is about 700 uniques, but I average around 100-300 still. Calguy, what did you do to get the word out? I believe the site is needed by almost everyone, and if people knew it was there, they would use it. Thanks

Calguy: I actually had read those prior. The thing about my site is that it isn't "news", it is more information. As with your site, you provide funny news, etc. Any other ideas? I have posted on digg and other sites, it didn't get too much attention, I think it got 27 diggs. Thanks

I have been getting some high amounts of traffic from stumble. Like once a week I'll have like a 3-day streak of hundreds of uniques from stumble.

Don't ever send a press release unless you have "real" news to report.

Are you doing any offline marketing? I don't know where you are, but you could send press releases to your local media (newspapers, TV and radio) and let them know about your site.

If you get an article written about you in your local newspapers, you can leverage the resultant publicity online and offline.

The benefit of getting local publicity is that if a journalist discovers a unique angle about you, you just might get national media attention.

Remember the Red Paperclip guy? He leveraged his publicity to get worldwide media attention.

    Good luck.:)

    Cheers

I have websites on niche subjects, even though I rank #1 I get only 100-200 visitors from SEO. Is it possible to get 1000 visitors through free marketing or should I move on?

    Did you try article marketing?

Write useful articles on your subject, and disribute them to article directories, announcement groups.

After two months, you can get 1000 uniques, or even more.

Write keywords rich articles. Chose you keywords wisely.
