You can try other options that will give you higher traffic.
PPC and back link exchange would be a great alternative.

Perhaps you are just doing a poor job of distributing those articles. When you properly distribute an article, it can get republished on 500-1000+ sites. This gives you a ton of backlinks. The article needs to be good quality and it should have a compelling resource box with 2 or 3 links to your site.

Don't rely on Google's link: command to tell you if you have backlinks or not. This command only shows a sample of backlinks and is not an indication of what links Google actually is counting.

Sorry but that is absolutely horrible advice. If you can't do well with articles, don't throw money at ppc instead. You would be bound to lose money with ppc if you don't know what you're doing. To succeed with ppc you need a website that converts extremely well and you need to know how to properly manage bids/ads.

Link exchange is a much outdated strategy. These days it is very tough to find a link exchange where you get more or equal benefits as the other site.

I recommend that you keep plugging away with articles, but read some tips/tutorials about article marketing. Also try some other strategies such as forum signatures, blog commenting and social bookmarking.

Don't put your link with a back slash. My site is http://www.reviewpenisdevice.com/. I mean don't try to put this with a last slash. Try to put ''http://www.reviewpenisdevice.com'' - this way. Because most of the time Google doesn't count your link as a back link.

where are you submitting your articles? number of backlinks depend on how many articles you are submitting and on how many article sites. google doesn't update backlinks every day so even if your articles are approved, they will need to be indexed by google before you can get any backlinks. your articles on few top article sites will get indexed without you doing any promotion but with lot of small article sites, you will need to do some bookmarking or blog commenting to get the articles indexed faster.

Yes, perhaps some of your approved articles are not yet indexed by google that's why they are not yet counted as backlinks. Just keep on submitting interesting and informative articles that are related to your site. If other sites or blogs that used to collect relevant articles find and republish them on their sites including the links in your resource box, this will provide you with natural backlinks and will also help to increase your keyword rankings in serp...

Remember google is very slow to list backlinks, even if it knows about them. It's better to search with yahoo for yoru sites backlinks.

Try to use an article submission service, it's best that you create spinned articles and submit them to hundreds of directories at once. I usually get a few dozen backlinks within a week or less of submission.
