i also use google keyword tool but if you want to try keywords in order to earn more you can use other web sites.
i dont think google keyword tool will you with for advertiser competitions. But for creating tagclouds - category creation it is useful.

I knew from the title of the thread that the word "wordtracker" would show up all over the place. I prefer Google suggest since I optimize websites for Google mostly.

I've been using the keyword tool at seobook, seems pretty accurate to me when compared to others.

Wordtracker is definitely good, but you have to keep in mind that their data (just like all the other tools) is pulled from a very small percentage of actual searches performed on the internet. I prefer using a few different tools, if I am doing serious keyword research.

Spot on. That's something I could never really figure out. It amazes me how lazy people are sometimes. If you're building a website, even if it's a landing page for a PPC campaign, the least you could do is a bit of research on the product/niche, and on the oppo, instead of just wanting to be able to get some software to do it all for you.

Personally, I used to (and still do to a large extent) specialise in one particular niche (forex), so I know all the variations on keywords/phrases. There is no software which could come up with a variation I haven't used before. I've tried some keyword software in the forex space, and some of the suggestions it spewed out were laughable.

That said, I've started to branch out in different areas, and for what it's worth I went straight to Keyword Elite, on the recommendation of various SEOs / aff marketers, and it seems to works well.

Here is another thread that has a link to a post that takes an unusual approach to keyword development.

I use the Google keyword tool. I bought Keyword Elite but it is not good. What a joke! The results numbers are way the heck off. Don't waste your money on this one.

Google Adwords Keyword tool has added a new feature recently. Now it shows the actual number of searches made in the previous month for any keyword pattern - just like the old overture keyword tool. This feature will increase the popularity of this keyword research tool.
