Find out how a website I just recently sold had over 30,000 unique keywords it was ranking for in the search engines and this is no joke...

and why you shouldn't worry about ranking for a couple major keywords in Google or any search engine for that matter....Now don't get me wrong it's great to get high rankings for those major keywords....but what you should really focus on is ranking for 4 + keyword phrases...These long tail more specific keywords are really easy to rank for and pull in the traffic when you add up all the different variations of keywords your ranking for....Read on to find out what I did! Sorry for not posting it all here but it's more detailed on my blog and has pictures...

Mr James Dean Nash has 10 times more work to do. :D

Oh yeah, out of interest here is the traffic stats for Wikipedia for Feb 2008. Click on a keyword/page to see the daily traffic graph.. For instance the page on "Sex" gets 40k hits per day. :p

my point is that the site I sold is ranked for over 30,000 keywords in less than a year actually about 7 months to be exact...but great job man on your site.....nice long tail!!!

How long have you had hittail on your site..?

Ummmm no...lol!! I sold that site and was just showing others what I did in about 7 months with hittail doing the tracking...Now if I had hittail on it for a couple of years I am sure that It would rank for alot more..

Here is a different site i ranked for over 30,000 unique search keywords in just 30 days. Actually the whole 10 page thread will probably interest you as it's all about longtail. In 4 months the site needed 3 clustered webservers and it was an e-commerce site also.

Thats great man...me I don't have the patience for Ecommerce...because once the site gets big then you need to hire employees and all that and I just don't really want to do that...

But the thing is traffic or ranking for thousands of keywords is not the full equation...you have to have traffic and conversion.. :) and when I was open for business for less than 5 months I was doing 5 figures plus a month on one site... :)

Was affiliate marketing not an option? If you had physical products to sell, you could just convert all those buy now buttons to an affiliated website and get paid commission. Or was it not worth it?

Affiliates was an option for this retail store but....the money just wouldn't be worth it....but I'll tell you what was worth it....the amount of start up capital that this sale has brought me....which the money has opened more doors and freed up alot of time that I would have been answering phone calls, shipping orders, emails etc..

Now I can focus on growth not answering phone calls etc..
