Hi,

I'm following the tips for maximizing SEO to bring traffic to my website. I have some return visitors and my site has been tagged. But I want to maximize my SEO. I use keywords relevant to given topics to increase the chances of them being picked up in the keyword searches. I have high quality content and regularly update my website. But I would like advice from experienced webmasters on that I can do to increase traffic. And I do all the work myself. If and when necessary I get help from the webhosting compnay from whom I purchased my sites.

Check out the link below:

<http://www.livingfithealthyandhappy.com>

I want to increase my Alexa page rank and get my site placed higher on google and yahoo.

Thanks.

First off, Alexa rank is useless, if you don't have their spyware toolbar installed you don't get counted, disregard alexa all together. Second, you need to start building backlinks, get inbound links to your site from sites that are related to your content, make sure to use the anchor text of the keyword\phrase you want to rank for in search engines. Below is an example where anchor text goes...

<a href="http://www.mylink.com">Anchor Text</a>

Code (markup):
Backlinks with the correct anchor text are you primary weapon to beat down the competition, make sure to follow on-page and off-page seo rules of thumb as well. Good Luck!

Thanks for the information, I'll be sure to use it. I was surprised to hear that about alexa, I had been told that they were a reliable indicator for website rankings. I've got backlinks on all of the major SEs-yahoo having the most. I expect it to be work, informative sites need time to get noticed and appreciated so I'm learning all that I can on topics related SEO for my website.

Trust me, Alexa is useless. If I used the toolbar my alexa rank would drop 10,000 to 20,000 in ranking, how sad eh?

How old is your site? Sites do need to mature, I personally believe you should expect to see action from SERPs within one year, all backlinks should remain active for about 2-3 months before they carry weight, this is my personal belief.

There are lots of different things that get you ranked in the search engines but having the correct anchor text is one of the most important.

Let me give you an example. Type 'click here' into google. You will see adobe reader is the top result. That's because people always use the anchor text 'click here' and there are thousands if not millions of anchor text with 'click here' linking to the adobe reader site. Everytime someone offers a digital product for download there's usually something like, 'if you don't already have adobe reader you can 'click here'. Make sense? Adobe don't optimize their site for the words 'click here' but that's what people use most in their anchor text so that's what google returns in the search results.

-Write some articels and submit them to major article directories. Put your anchor text in your bio box.
-Create little websites on squidoo and hub pages. Put a little content in them and put a link back to your site with the anchor text(keyword) you want optimize for.

Ping those sites and when the search bots come crawling they'll see a link to your site with the anchor text you put there. The search engines will take note of the back link and the anchor text used and you may get some traffic from squidoo or any other social networking site you use.

There's lots more you could do

hope that helps

Dave

Yup I agree on that. However it is not easy to get high authority on your sites. You need good or unique content to be bookmarked.

I'm pinging the major social bookmarking sites. I'm also getting tagged by other sites and visitors to my site. All of this is helping. I also wrote articles which I submitted to article directories. Those articles are highly requested on those directories but I'm waiting for the backlinks to show up from them. I wonder how many people are just downloading the articles for their own reading instead of posting them to websites?

I'd like to use link in my sig here but I'm not able to do that yet. :( I'm reading the advice on link building on another thread here at DP, and it's very informative. I was already employing some of the methods suggested in that thread but I found even more. :)
