Image Ads a good idea?

    Aloha,

Is it a good idea to enable image ads?

Some of my sites have CTR of 30% of more with text ads, but can it get even better with image ads?

I'm a bit reluctant to try it out, since my online income is my only income (and there isn't that much room for errors yet).

I never really liked image ads, mainly because the normal visitor's brain already blocks it out as an ad. That's just my opinion though.

I've never ran image ads for more than one day.

Putting images next to ads now is a big no-no and can result in a ban from Adsense.

:p:p yeah, that's 2 years old.. i did not notice that time
    Thanks for that.

I think that Google allows webmasters to put images above AdSense ads as long as there is a border that demarcates the images.

Two things I've noticed about image ads:
    1. Some of them pay per view, rather than per click, so unless you get a lot of traffic, you may only get a few cents;
    2. Some of them don't 'ask for' a click, like the ones I had recently announcing the new Bionic Woman TV show. The ad said all it needed to say; the user wasn't compelled to click it - which probably made it pay per view also. Which, again, means less $$$.

Not many "image ad" advertisers understand how to get a good CTR with their images. Therefore, I wouldn't use them. :)

I think it can work well on some niches but not all. It does not appear to work well on. I tested this one of my sites by just having image ads but the CTR was defiantely lower than when having a combination or just text for this particular site.

More eye-grabbing text and clean colors do best. :)

i think it depents on your site category. image ads may be a good solution for game sites or celebrity sites but i dont think that image ads can be a good solution for article sites

    Controversial question.

    Let's see...
    - Image ads grab more attention while taking a longer time to load.
    - Text ads grab less attention but load a lot faster.

Whichever you use, just make sure, it suits the site you're running. And, since, you're not in any position to be able to take risks, don't even think about it. Maybe, later, when you're in a better position...assess which's better.

I've found text ads to be far more targeted. Advertisers generally don't have time to make banners of different sizes for a variety of keywords, so they end up with just a couple different images and use them for a large group of keywords. With text ads, they can easily change the text to match up better with each keyword.
