Do you guys have any tips on how to gain some positive reputation? I already have 645+ posts and still only 39 reputation points. I do not need ten blurbs or so. All I really would like is what you can see below : I try to be really helpful on the forums and reply to questions that I know answers to, give good advice, make quality posts, etc. However, most users do not bother to leave a rep+. I also give away some reputation points to buyers of my products, or to posts that I really like, but I don't get any reps in return. I've also given away a domain name in the freebies section and believe me or not, I got about 10-15 replies, but not even a single rep+. Not even of the person that received the domain. So my aim is to reach 100 reputation points and I'll give a rep+ to everyone who gives me a good advice on how to achieve it. Why I actually need 2 blurbs? To be honest, I feel a little ashamed to be a forum member with nearly 700 posts and still only 1 green blurb. I also believe it brings more trustworthy to a member that has more than just one blurb. I would be really happy with 2 blurbs, nothing more.
Just make lots of useful contributions, try and answer threads quickly and concisely and generally get known about here. Don't ever ask for rep - either in a post or in your signature. Don't ever make it a condition of a sale or 'freebie'.
To get good rep just keep making usefull posts/threads/ and helping people out. It will come. But making threads about rep doesnt help. Some people will give negative rep just for that. Which I dont agree in because not everyone knows about rep.
Being friendly also helps But it takes time, it's not that bad having 1 green blob at 1k posts. Anyways, hopefully you rep useful people too? sign your name on it.
I have never asked for rep, as I know it is against DP rules. Perhaps that's why I have only 39 points. Actually that's what I am struggling with all the time. I can't answer many questions, as I don't have so much knowledge. But most people who ask questions are newbies and have no clue about the reputation feature. But OK, I must try harder.
I know - I wasn't accusing. You'd be amazed how many people do ask for rep though - it's an unwise move because a lot of members, me included, believe it devalues the whole rep system. Consequently people who do ask for rep often receive negative rep. Surprisingly, it isn't actually against the rules to ask for rep.
I think it's 100 Points = 1 Green Blob but when you have like 1000 Points you need 200 points to get another blob. Maybe one of the "Has reputation beyond repute" members could verify
Do not give it another thought! If you start spending your evenings chasing "rep" instead of hard currency, you'll end up poor. Respected (one would hope), but poor /miko67
Everything you wanted to know but were afraid to ask about reputation system: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=173583
Most of my rep is from posting sarcastic comments or giving away free directory links, so be more sarcastic.
Yeah, that's true. Thanks for your point. Thank you guys for all your tips. I'll try them. I also wanted to let you know that I cannot give away reps in return of your tips immediately (as I promised), because I have given out too much reputation in the last 24 hours.
I would like the say thanks to the anonymous member who doesn't like when I try to help out others Lets summarize the thread; Member asks a question: I reply Do I really merit negative reputation?
post helpful posts and the reps will follow! don't visit the politics section! you won't get reds! Also try the reviews sections, make quality reviews, and the green's will come! reps will come with time, no need to hurry on reps, just keep posting helpful posts, that's it!
Try thinking and reading the threads that inspire you to give some rep to the original poster and then do that kind of stuff. Mostly I get from appraisal as that is the section I visit most and I can answer best. It doesn't means that I have to say High $x,xxx for any domain name. One can get green even if he is telling the truth no matter what. More helpful articles, tips, freebies and helping people in graphics or coding section is also useful.
