Just a quick recommendation - it may be less confusing if people who are banned because of a string of infractions have the user title "Suspended" instead of "Banned"? Simply that "Banned" gives an impression of permanency, as if such a person has committed a really serious act. "Suspended" gives an impression of it being a temporary state. I actually thought that banned members had all been using DP fraudulently until I read VisciousSummer's post on the issue yesterday, after being surprised to see a really established member "banned". I hadn't even realised bannings occurred on an infraction basis, and therefore offered temporary removal from the forums. 2c.
That is a fantastic idea, im with you on this one. Perm = Banned Specific Time = Suspended Nice, one of the best idea ive seen here for awhile
Yes ... its correct... Banned should be replaced with suspended. And the one who is permanently banned should be named Banned. This would clear many things out. Like who is Banned and who is suspended.
Brilliant suggestion. Hopefully Shawn will see this one and it wont get buried by the generally useless ones.
Banned, suspended all the same! If you don't want to have a "Banned" title, don't break the forum rules!
I'm with you Brian - that's a really good idea. As for the "what's the difference and who cares?" argument there is a big difference - a member can be suspended for several trivial offences like bumping, whereas members are usually only banned for dishonesty.
I don't really see a difference and I don't think it will be changed, as said before, it has been discussed before: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=172760
This can happen to the best of us. I support this since it is a huge difference between being banned for cheating and lying, and being banned for bumping posts. And this difference should be reflected within your forum status.
If a person gets the boot its for a valid reason. Why you wanna know about or keep a track of someone who has been thrown out for his wrong doings. Let them be banned only. Care to less about the ones who are banned but the ones who are alive due to generosity. KS
The concern is one of user perception - I know some people are "Banned" because they attempted to defraud DP members. So I've since regarded every member who carried the "Banned" user title as having also attempted to defraud DP members. I think a distinct between a temporary banning and permanent banning would certainly be useful for other members to reference - as before, I didn't even realise DP used the infraction system, and I've been here a few years. I guess maybe I don't read enough of what's here, but because there's such a huge volume, I tend to only visit a couple of boards and not others, so probably don't keep as informed as I should be. Anyway, was all just feedback and 2c - I'm not looking to start a revolution here.
