Zerosleep any explanation why yahoo supports sucks? I was planning to register a domain and looking for the cheapest but not cheap support. Thanks
Yahoo is a reseller for MelbourneIT and their support cannot fix many things directly. When you email them it can take a couple of emails to confirm your identity before they will even look at your question.
i don't know if this is true but if you are planning to resell the domain, it will be hard to transfer it to another
For the reasons listed above and more, never register an important domain name with yahoo. Spend the extra few bucks and get complete control.
one of my best domains is hosted on yahoo lol - it'll expire in 2 months so im gonna move it to namecheap their support is VERY slow - but if you know how to handle everything you wont need their support, like nameservers and etc problems. i dont know what other problems you can have
All of this is true about Yahoo Still, I have 30+ domain names registered there to capitolize on some of their strengths. Search engine friendly redirects and instantaneous web propigation for newly aquired domain names being two that come to mind. They are not GoDaddy when it comes to support and not being able to push domain names internally or transfer in (transfer out is no problem) is a major hindrence. But service? How much service do you need for a domain name when the control panel is intuitive and works very well?
8everything and trichnosis Keep in mind that the $2 domain name is a sale which ends in two days and is only good for one domain name for one year, it will cost $9.95 every year thereafter. To qualifiy for the $2 domain name it must be your first domain name purchase from Yahoo. Transferring to another registrar is no problem at all but oddly Yahoo does not offer the ability to transfer from another registrar to their registrar (Melbourne IT) and does not facilitate Yahoo user to user pushes. It really depends on what the intended purposes are for your domain name as to whether or not Yahoo is the right choice. Service doesn't actually "suck" as was mentioned previously but because it can be a little cumbersome getting a response from Yahoo support, it does not rank up there with the best of them. The biggest plus I can state in favor of purchasing a domain name from Yahoo is the domain name control panel, it is so incredibly easy to use. Offering search engine friendly masked and unmasked redirects as well as almost instant nameserver propigation. I have a number of websites hosted on different servers with the domain names hosted on Yahoo. It is a system that works very well but again it depends what you are using the domain name for.
Well domains are imprtant for me and I heard a lot of complaints about yahoo domains.I'll give 5 usd more and go with another registrar.
