That's not logic pertaining to Sig Links. Nobody goes to jail for being a senior member. You can't not conclude this as logic. Senior members have very will providing them self as good standing members. Reputation should count not the logic of going to jail. What happen to the better business bural (sp?)?

Those in good standing never worry about infractions...they hardly get any.

It is those who post, just for the sake of posting, who have to worry about infractions.

:( Means due to the spammers some good webmasters will lose heavy number of backlinks pointing to their sites.

don't worry too much about them, as long as the genuine posters and good community member stay, then they might get tired of doing it, and DP might also snoop them out...

This stuff is bad. Because it means that the quality of posts become less and less. We should try to get on top of it ASAP!!

Scamming and spamming is scamming and spamming, and any way you slice it there is far too much of that at DP. Crap posts or signature selling - it's all crap.

If having principles is having a bad day or a bad personality, I'm guilty.

If you were doing that on most forums, your ass would be banned. That's like all those people selling PageRank who are now crying that Google is taking money out of their pockets... or the criminals that whine when they're caught and lose their source of income.

Do you think I don't get an inquiry or two every month to sell signature links? It's not a choice between hypocrisy and stupidity. It's a choice between hypocrisy or sticking with your principles. I chose principles. You chose the cash.

Your "principles" don't make any sense

There is no scamming or spamming if the person selling signature links didn't make posts for the sole purpose of selling his/her signature links.

Going by your school of thought, every website which displays adsense ads on it is MFA.

The forum doesn't need to grow faster if growing faster means more spammers and scammers - or more crap posts in General Chat.

Does anyone really need another poll about the hottest chick at DP or whatever the latest BS thread is?

well why only general, if posters are paid good amount they can post in any section business section, politics & relegion , web designing sections .
those who is ready to invest will pay $200-400 more and get the best posts ?

is it necessary that all would be crap ?
logically no one will want to invest if its all gonna go in vain, whoever is spending might not be a fool for sure.

im not talking about $50 offer here in screenshot we all have seen. but some high quality stuff.

Maybe if we got rid of the GC or if post count didn't count in those sections.. I've seen a lot of spammy posters that just post in the GC section :)

Nothing relating to signature sales: But aren't there other incentives to get an account with a high post count (scam in the BST because of the illusion that they're a reputable member?)

There are a lot of problems currently with this forum and what greedy members are doing to it. And if something doesn't happen soon, it's going to collapse under the weight of all the crap and scams.

Just so I'm clear here: I'm not blaming the moderators. I don't think you could pay me enough to be a moderator here - I wouldn't last a week. I also get that Shawn's vision for the forum originally was that it would be self-regulating with a minimum of rules. The problem is that he underestimated the sheer number of scammers, spammers, and idiots in the world, and some days it seems like they are all finding their way here.

DigitalPoint at one time was a reputable forum. It badly needs some intervention now. A reputation once lost is difficult to regain.

Every person has his own point of view.

For me, it is hypocrisy that people claim they are not posting for benefits of their signatures and yet so vehemently oppose if someone suggests removing of signatures in order to discourage spam/useless posts.

Disabling signatures would separate the wheat from the chaff.

I am sure Shawn would be more happy to have a less active and yet a more productive forum.

Do you really think I need to post for more signature links here?

To me, permitting signature links is a way of saying to members, "Thanks for being an active member of the forum". To disable those because the privilege is being abused by idiots is an insult to those members who are complying with the spirit of a forum community instead of the letter of the law. Additionally, it's not the only or even the best way of addressing the problem, and it's not only sig link selling that IS the problem - people are already selling avatars and location space - what's next. What DP needs to do is to serve notice loudly and clearly that scamming, spamming, and adolescent crap posting is not welcome. And the best way to do that is to say that your entire profile can contain nothing except references to yourself and your own websites.

There is no need for DP to thank anyone...the benefits that an individual gets
from DP outweighs the individual's contribution by a large margin.

You are giving the "self reference" suggestion because it suits you and allows you to do what you have been doing so far.

You expect everyone to change, but you don't want to change in any manner.

You stick to your principles till you don't have to lose anything...when time comes to sacrificing the one or two lines of signatures under your posts to improve quality and integrity of the forum, your principles go for a vacation.
