Actually there were a few surprises ...

Some known directories that are weakly promoted, and some hidden gems with lots of backlinks.

Of course this says nothing about the quality of links ...
But this does give me a benchmark to gauge the efforts of the new directories.

Looks like I have to re-evaluate some of my bids. ;)

I think there may be a problem with including your site on this list ...

Have you read ... Ethical Bid Directories ... Rulz of conduct!

That is considered the guidelines for including your site on this list.

Well I really dont want to rub anyone the wrong way but who came up with these so called "ethics" so in order to be added to your list I cant agressivly promote my Link Bid Directory? I am trying to promote my site and give back to this community at the same time... I mean you go to the store and you see buy one get one free or buy 2 for $5 and etc its all marketing and business ... your ethics seem to be a way to keep the more popular directories popular and the new guy under foot I am sorry if thats the way you are going to be I do not want to be included in your little list...

I do not by any means mean disrespect to anyone I just dont agree with these ethics that 90% of us have not been able to contribute to.. So I guess I am here to help the "little guys" in the directory world trying to stake their claim , and I guess I need to come up with my own up to date and realistic list of Bid For Position Directories. thanks and have a nice day.

    Good point!
Any one that has a business, a website, promotes it to get it noticed and for it to make money.
Why should someone then tell me, you can not promote your directory UNLESS you follow my rules?

Now two lists, those who don't want to promote their directories can have it listed here and another list for those who want to promote their directories.

I see no problem promoting a new directory with a double your bid special.
I am doing this now with a new directory that I just released today.
It is just for a week, and just to get the directory jumpstarted and noticed.
After the promotion, no more matching bids.
That is to protect those who purchased (notice, I said purchased, a link) and to protect future business.

An established directory, once it has bids that have been paid, should no longer have 2 for 1's, buy one get one free, or anything else that lowers the value of the present bids.

Nobody can force you to abide by those rules. There is no one to enforce them ... except the bidders!

Bid directory owners work hard to promote the concept as much as their own directories ... if you don't want to be a part of this community, why should they help you?

Read the whole ethics thread this time ... if you still disagree, be sure to leave a comment.

Okay good I am not alone on this one...

I am only offering this special to Digitalpoint members and just until sunday just using it as a tool to help promote the site which is good for link buyers right? and to help contribute to the Digitalpoint community.

Actually it is only good for the buyers who get the deal. Everyone else has to pay double to get placed in the same position.

Who will remember a month from now that these bids were doubled?

If I offer a free house to the first $250,000 bid does that mean my links are worth more?

The only thing give-aways do is distort the value of your bids, and possibly mislead those who bid later. It is no different than having a shill at the auction who forces bids higher to make more money.

It is not only unethical, it is illegal in most countries! :)

Someone is confusing promotion of a directory with scamming buyers.
It is not unethical or illegal to offer a two for one!
Geesh, it is done every damn day on tv, the newspaper, ads in the mail.
    Buy this, get this free.
As in an auto dealer right now, buy a new car from him and he gives you a
    52 inch plasma tv.
Are the other auto dealers screaming unethical? Illegal?
Heck no, it is called business promotion.

Now, I go and buy a car from him and get the tv.
Next week, he no longer has that promotion of a free tv.
Are the auto buyers next week and in the future being cheated?
    Heck no!

Same with directories, it is LEGAL to offer any promotion the owner pleases.

If you do not like 2 for ones, exchanging links, etc...that is your opinion.
BUt do not try to force that opinion on the rest of us, even by saying all these owners want everyone to be the same.
    What a bunch of crap.

If a potential buyer feels that its worth the money then IT IS worth it plain and simple. Running a deal special or whatever drives more traffic and helps your site gain popularity. This is good for people who buy links now and later. This is not a short term thing I am looking at it as a long term investment. Am I loosing money by matching bids YES I AM , but I feel that it will help get the word out and also help our community of link directory owners , and link buyers since we are all the same.

This is not a scam this is marketing scamming is ripping people off I am helping my customers get an edge on their competition and that is benifit of buying a link on my site.

Btw I did re-read your thread...

I didnt miss a thing... your trying to force your own pre-made ethics on others and trying to shape this business to your liking...
    its not gonna happen.

    excellent!

I think what we are seeing here is that the "big guys" of the directory business are worried that they may loose their market... Bid for position directories are the new school and its about freaking time!

This has nothing to do with bidding on links...

first of all EBAY is EBAY they call the shots no matter what its their business... last I knew I owned my website and i'm allowed to come up with my own TOS... and what your emphasizing is just shady business practice to begin with (common sense) and has nothing to with running promotions, specials, deals, etc in fact its purely to help the profit of the seller. Nice try though.

We can take this around the post one more time if you like ...

The fact is over 130 other directory owners are using the rulz as a guide to running their own bid directories. You guys have chosen to take another path ... GOOD LUCK WITH THAT. :D

I say let the bidders decide .... reminds me I have to go take care of business. :)
