That's funny, i think it is about a person's backbone when it comes to begging..

like bumping a thread, that's like cutting the line, i wonder why people think it is "OK" to do it in a forum

What does that means? So it is ok for you to do, but not EGS?

    All I meant was:
He was new here - does that make it OK per say? Not really, but a NEW person can make mistakes, and learn off it... and im sure he has!

I never ask for reps on threads cause its dangerous so I do not ask for reps in my signature either. But mutual tit for tat policy i follow for sure.

Whenever I see "rep me", I slap them with a red rep.
"Congrats, you got repped :) "

I think asking for rep in your signature smacks of desperation. I'll give green rep to someone who is giving something away, and I don't object too much if I've asked for info about a freebie and the person asks for rep in a PM - at least they're doing something to get rep instead of just asking for it :)

If a post is useful or entertaining it will get rep without needing prompting, IMO.

I don't think it's ethical to beg for reps, but if you're just reminding someone that they can rep somebody, then that is a different matter.

Personally I think that people should give reps more freely, and I do not mind general reminders. When people outright ask for rep though I tend to never give it, and if they 'beg' I generally consider giving bad rep.

I saw someone with a sig that said something like "Have you given someone rep today" and I liked it (I even added something like it to my sig for a while). I think a reminder is good now and again, as it, well, reminds me there is rep enabled on this forum. But I think asking for it personally, or begging for it is just bad form.

That means that I used to do that earlier, that post you referenced was posted on the same month in which I joined DP, but later I learned that I shouldn't do it, and stopped it immediately. It isn't okay for me or anyone to do that and I'll say that the matter I posted in that post which you quoted was throughly unethical on my part. But since I have stopped doing it, I believe I am not at fault anymore.

Therefore, get a life, oh and someone left me red rep on that thread, I think it was either you or EGS, but whoever it was, I'll say the same thing again "Get a life".

I dont see any problem with asking for reps if the posts are really useful...

I ignore open appeals for reps. I do give green reps (often) for two reasons:

    1. For a helpful or interesting post.

    2. For directory owners allowing free listings. That helps those of us with little or no budget.
