Seems like a great Idea, sort of a short notice though. I wont be going its too far away, but 9 days isn't enough time. Good luck and tell us about how it went and what went on :)

I am glad you brought IMAX. The Irvine Spectrum is a bit of a destination so you might want to bring loved ones along and turn them loose on the theatres, restaurants, ferris wheel, carousel, Nordstroms, Target, and hundreds of shops with things nobody really needs.

Yes, there's lots to do there! If the word about this meet-up spreads too quickly, I hope Fox Grille can handle us all. :)

Here are directions and the menu if anyone needs it.

    Are we meeting upstairs?

I have their event planning guide and it mentions a number of private and semi-private rooms/areas. Some of those have extra charges beyond food and drink tabs.

So far it looks like we still could fit around one really big table. Is upstairs just open space or something special? I was in a long room adjacent to the main TV room that had a room inside a waterfall which would be a cool option. Let me know about upstairs as I will be talking to Fox in the next 24 hours to semi-finalize (I'd be glad to see people adding themselves until "hi, can I get you started with an appetizer?". :)

Worse comes to worse there are a ton of other areas down there that we could hang out. Dave and Busters comes to mind, but there are a bunch. No reason that Fox Grill couldn't handle a big group of us as a walk-in, though.

so can we get a head count of who's really going and who's just thinking about it so far? who's the person in charge of organizing this thing anyway? can we have that person call the grill and see if they have a lot of reservations for that day? we need to be prepared thats all.

I started the thread so guess I am the organizer. I am in contact with Fox. So far we have eight that said they would be there. I was there last year during a UCLA tournament game, the main room was packed (we had a reservation but still didn't get in), they still had lots of space. I'll post additional info in this thread as it comes in. I'll PM if any significant changes happen.

By the way, Shoemoney RSVP'ed with a "dude, I live in Nebraska". I can't believe a minor detail like that would hold him back, wait until this is an invite only event, then he'll be sorry. ;)

That thing finished up yesterday, he should stay out here until Sunday.

That retreat looked great, Guy Kawasaki is one of my favorites. I liked two concepts in his book Rules for Revolutionaries: "Don't worry be crappy" and Churn baby, churn" - in other words get going and keeping tuning what you are doing. Kinda like starting a meet up without out a bunch of analysis. :D

I reserved a table for 10 in the main dining area under the name Tom. This is the large room that is better suited for discussion than the main bar room with all the TV's.

The Irvine Spectrum is at the merge of the 5 and 405 in south central Orange County. The Fox Sports Grill is at the north end (the end furthest from Target, Nordtrom and the ferris wheel. Figure on 5-10 minutes to find a parking spot and walking time. If valet parking is how you roll, figure on 2 minutes.

Terabyte and I will supply some appetizers, drinks and any other food is on you (but you should retain your receipt for tax purposes).

I'd suggest we keep it family friendly, white hat, legal, etc to keep the appeal as broad as possible. I assume some or all of the techniques used for the mainstream sites will apply to things on the edge. If someone has the knowledge you are looking for, they'll probably find you.
