So far I have been hibernating my PC instead of shutting it down and never had any problems.

But someone is saying that Hibernating is extremely dangerous and he says DONT DO IT!

Tell me ur suggestions. I always like to hibernate becoz it boots up so quick!

I have dealt with lots of PC's that had problem coming out of the hibernate state so I always advise people to shut it down if not in use.

PC's are like cars, the more mileage they put on the more unreliable they become.

I leave my home pc on 24/7.

If I'm using my laptop I generally switch it off and put it away when I'm finished using it - so it never gets a chance to hibernate.

I hibernate my laptop most of the time, but sometimes I shut it off (if I'm away for a whole day obviously). But, isn't it the opposite, if you turn your computer on and off it does harm to it?

That's why I like my Mac. My PC takes forever to come out of a sleep state (hibernate)... My iBook? Just hit the space bar or touch the track pad. Quick and easy. I have never intentionally shut down a single Mac based laptop. My PC laptops, I always do, or try to remember to. If I don't they ethier need to be rebooted to get them back, or I end up killing the battery.

Anyway, I really do not think hibernate is "harmful" to the physical hardware, if that is what you are asking.

I read years ago that most computer components fail on boot, rather than once they're happily spinning away.

I shutdown my computer most of the time, but sometimes I do hibernate. This is for the first time I'm hearing something like this. I don't think it is bad for the computer.

I don't think there's any harm in it. Besides, why would they put that feature in a laptop if it's harmful. :D

I often hibernate, rarely with any problems at all. I still think that it should be shut down at least occasionally, and not always hibernate. But that's more a feeling than anything else...

Hibernation is not harmful. It just makes the windows loading faster.

However restart freshes the computer by clearing computer's cache.

there is no danger in this at all.
if your running a microsoft OS, you'll want to reboot every other week or so to clear the cache,

if your running linux or mac, you can leave your pc on for years with no problems ;)

I work on computers everyday, I somewhat know what I'm talking about on this one :p

the problem with not shutting down your computer gets into how the processor fragments the memory and the HDD...some resources (such as MS WORD) take lots of room...shutting down the computer clears the memory and allows it to start fresh. Not shutting down leaves "holes" in the mem modules that then get filled, slowing the memory down as well as the cache that you have with the processor....while shutting it down nightly is not necessary a help, doing it at least once a week (based on your memory size) is not a bad idea...
