Surely most of you know this little secret to speed up your start-up and closing Windows XP sessions. Also when your switch on your PC again, you'll return to your previous working state (Browser's windows, opened files, etc.).

    Instructions:
Go to "Start", "Turn Off Computer..." and press Shift key to change the "Stand By" button to "Hibernate" on the Shut Down dialog
    .

the only problem with that is that it doesn't clear the memory cache, which is done by turning off the system...if you have a low amount of memory, you will be better off turning the computer completely off rather than just going into standby.

Hibernation is good.. but it's not as good as shutdown or restart. :)

Same here. I find that XP gets 'clunky' after too many hibernations and standbys

Hibernations and stand bys are only good if your in a hurry or too lazy to close all your programs when you want to shutdown your PC.

What do you mean by a fresh start (I'm not computer saavy out of the internet and photoshop lol). Is there something your computer does (that benefits it) when you turn it off, then on? I heard turning it off and on a lot is bad for it..

what d16man said.it clears your memory.it can make your computer faster.
me,i've gone months without even a restart.
if you only go away for a couple hours it is better to just leave it on.you should turn off your monitor though.

You always can remove your batteries :D (after saving all your work, of course). That way you'll increase your batteries life, too.

I took the plug off my laptop while it was hibernating (because I was afraid it was still "on" and taking up energy) but it lasted a while! (I left it like that all day). When I came back some of the battery was used up, but not a lot:)

Best to just shut it off manually

Yeah when I press the shutdown button after the box with stand by hibernate and all those it just closes the box and does nothing. As for pulling the battery out thats too much work, I dont really care that its been on too long, although it is lagging when I open and close apps like photoshop but I wont try to shutdown until it takes 30 mins to open.
